The new books funded through your donations have made a tremendous difference, offering students exciting opportunities to explore new stories, develop essential skills, and deepen their love of reading.\r\n\r\nThese new books are much more than just stories on a shelf—they are tools for learning and growth. Through them, we teach critical literacy skills such as identifying story elements, making inferences, and analyzing themes. For example, books with rich characters allow us to dive into lessons on empathy and understanding different perspectives. Nonfiction texts encourage students to ask questions, gather evidence, and connect ideas to the real world. These books also provide a springboard for teaching social-emotional skills, like handling challenges or working through conflicts, that students can carry with them far beyond the library.\r\n\r\nReading in our library is not a passive activity. It's an engaging, interactive experience that helps students connect to the texts on a deeper level. During read-aloud sessions, students are encouraged to make predictions, ask questions, and discuss how the stories relate to their own lives. Afterward, we often incorporate hands-on activities to reinforce these lessons. For instance, after reading a book about teamwork, students might work in small groups to create their own collaborative story. Or, after exploring a story with a strong setting, they might draw or build a model of what they imagine the setting looks like. These activities not only enhance comprehension but also make reading fun and memorable.\r\n\r\nThe new books have been especially meaningful for students who are just beginning to see themselves as readers. For some, finding the right book is all it takes to spark a love of reading. One student, who had been hesitant to pick up a book on their own, discovered a new favorite series thanks to our expanded collection.
