I was introduced to Building Thinking Classrooms last year and wanted to give my students more opportunities to collaborate, problem-solve, and think out loud together. Before this project was funded, we were making do with small personal whiteboards, which limited how much students could write, share, and visually explain their thinking. Now, with these huge whiteboards, students work in groups around the room, standing, discussing, and actively engaging in each step of the problem. The first time they walked in and saw the boards, they literally cheered. They couldn't wait to grab markers and start working together.\r\n\r\nThese whiteboards have already made learning more interactive and joyful, and students are noticeably more confident explaining their strategies to others. As we continue diving into our current math units, the whiteboards will be the center of our collaborative problem-solving time. Students will keep using them to test ideas, take risks, revise their thinking, and build strong mathematical reasoning through teamwork. I never would have been able to afford these boards on my own, so having this project funded has been an absolute game-changer. My students are learning more deeply—and having so much fun doing it—because of your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1758054545751,"projectUrl":"project/thinking-on-our-feet-and-walls/9453445/","projectTitle":"Thinking on Our Feet (and Walls!)","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Terry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9065019_orig.jpg?crop=342,342,x54,y243&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756603737689","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9065019"},{"teacherId":9065019,"projectId":9453695,"letterContent":"These new resources have truly transformed the way my classroom runs and have empowered my students to take ownership of their learning environment. From the first day the materials arrived, my students were buzzing with excitement—especially over the new pencil sharpener, which they treated like a high-tech gadget. The microfiber cloths, baskets, notepads, and Expo markers have helped us stay organized and prepared, and the little floor vacuum has become a class favorite. Now, when a spill or mess happens, students don't wait for an adult—they jump up, grab the vacuum or a cloth, and take care of it themselves. It has been amazing to watch them take pride in keeping our space clean and ready for learning.\r\n\r\nBecause of these supplies, our daily routines run more smoothly and our classroom feels calm, orderly, and student-centered. Students can easily find the materials they need, manage their own clean-up, and transition between activities with confidence. As we continue working on our current projects—like our ongoing writing notebooks and small-group reading lessons—the students are using these tools every day to stay organized and engaged. Your generosity has not only supported our classroom now, but has also helped build lifelong habits of responsibility, independence, and teamwork. Book groups are one of my favorite parts of teaching and quickly become one of my students' favorite parts of the day. They give students the chance to practice skills like summarizing, asking questions, discussing themes, and supporting their ideas with evidence—all while building a genuine love of reading.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading often looks like small groups gathered together, books in hand, leaning in and talking excitedly about what just happened in the story. These moments are filled with collaboration, laughter, and those wonderful \"aha!\" moments when students make connections or see something in a new way.\r\n\r\nMy students are already buzzing with excitement as I organize our book groups for this year. A few have even been asking me which book they'll get to read first! I know that these new titles will not only challenge them as readers but also give them stories and characters they'll carry with them for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1745877773041,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-4th-grade-bookworms/9212021/","projectTitle":"Fueling 4th Grade Bookworms!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Terry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9065019_orig.jpg?crop=342,342,x54,y243&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756603737689","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9065019"},{"teacherId":9065019,"projectId":9293619,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students are fully equipped with the tools they need to grow as writers and thinkers this year. The notebooks are being used as our dedicated writing journals, where students draft stories, essays, and reflections. Since my emphasis this year is on creating stronger writers, these journals have quickly become a place where students feel free to explore ideas and practice the important skill of writing in multiple paragraphs—a big jump in 4th grade.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were so excited. The markers—especially the skin-toned markers—have been a huge hit, giving students a way to add personal touches and representation to their illustrations and projects. The dry erase markers have made our daily practice activities more interactive, letting us brainstorm, revise, and share ideas quickly.\r\n\r\nOne favorite classroom moment came when we wrote personal narratives. My students filled their notebooks with stories from their own lives and then used the markers to add illustrations that reflected their unique identities. Their pride in seeing their voices and stories come alive on the page was amazing.\r\n\r\nThe next step for us is moving into opinion and informational writing, where we'll continue building stamina and confidence in multi-paragraph writing. The materials you helped provide gave us the variety and large quantities we needed to make this possible for upper grade students.\r\n\r\nWe used the counting collections for the very first time last week, and my students absolutely loved it. Their excitement was contagious—they dove right in, worked together, and were so engaged that they've been asking me ever since when we get to do it again. One group even came up with multiple strategies to count efficiently and proudly shared their process with the class. Watching them collaborate, explain their reasoning, and build confidence in their math skills was such a powerful moment.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, my students now have access to hands-on math learning that challenges them to think critically and work creatively. Our next steps will be to continue using these collections regularly, exploring not only counting but also grouping, multiplication, division, and place value. These materials will keep supporting my students' math growth all year long—and for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1746785662450,"projectUrl":"project/counting-on-success-building-math-minds/9293686/","projectTitle":"Counting on Success: Building Math Minds with Collections!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Terry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9065019_orig.jpg?crop=342,342,x54,y243&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756603737689","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9065019"},{"teacherId":9065019,"projectId":9339538,"letterContent":"When it comes to books, I'm the kind of reader who always has a highlighter in hand. Because of your generosity, I finally have my own copies of these teacher development books—ones I had my eye on for a while but held off on buying. Now, I can dig in fully, mark them up, and truly make them my own.\r\n\r\nAlready, I've started reading and have learned so many new strategies that I've been able to implement in my classroom right away. These texts focus on building stronger relationships with students, creating engaging lessons, and fostering a positive classroom community—skills that make a lasting difference for kids.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments so far came when I applied a strategy I learned about student choice and ownership. I gave my students the opportunity to select how they wanted to show their understanding of a reading passage, and the room came alive. Some students chose to sketch, some wrote summaries, and others shared through discussion. The energy and engagement were incredible, and students who are usually more hesitant to participate really shined.\r\n\r\nThis project has elevated my teaching by giving me tools I can return to daily.
