This is a biannual event where our students are able to come together and prepare for exams with delicious snacks. As exam season is often a stressful time for students, having the ability to put together an event where students can work together in a peaceful environment with snacks, helps ease the tensions of testing. It is extremely helpful to be able to offer to the students snacks while they prepare for their tests and we are extremely grateful to be able to offer a variety of them that they can enjoy. \r\n\r\nSome students were able to treat the snacks as a reward after studying for long and some used them as comfort snacks to help get them through the process. Nonetheless, Valencia High School is extremely grateful for the generous donations to allow us to put on this event! The emotion activities, especially the Coin Drop Game, have been a huge hit in our speech sessions. First, they were so excited and thankful to have the new items. Many are telling their friends, and they are coming in daily. The ping pong table is definitely the favorite. The kids really enjoy playing and are having weekly competitions, which is boosting their confidence. \n\nThe hula hoops are also a hit especially with the younger girls. They are also engaging in friendly competitions, which helps them increase their self esteem, social connections and creativity. It is so nice to see them smile and improve their skills.\n\nThis month we are using the art supplies to create masks identifying different emotions. This will allow them to understand different emotions they experience, which are sometimes hard for them to put into words. The ping pong table quickly became a favorite, encouraging social interaction and stress relief. The kids are excited to have the supplies. The piano is used daily as we have some exceptionally talented students. They are utilizing it to explore melody and emotions, often composing short pieces that reflect their mood. \r\nIn the fall we will start a new music therapy group that will alternate every six weeks of the school year and the piano will be a focal point allowing multiple student to explore healing through music. \r\n\r\nThe art supplies have also allowed us to continue our expressions through arts Tuesdays. The kids are able to create different textures in their art work using the array of paint brushes the donation provided. They promised to clean and dry the brushes when they finish using them. \r\n\r\nOf course, the snacks have been a hit as well. They not only provide nourishment but a sense of care and consistency that allows the kids to stay focused and feel cared for when they visit the wellness center.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me give our students the tools to explore, heal, and thrive.
