Their eyes lit up as we unpacked boxes filled with fresh pencils, highlighters, markers, and crayons. It might seem simple, but for many of my students, having their own supplies to use each day made them feel proud, prepared, and ready to learn. We've already started using the materials in every subject area. During writing time, students have been using their new pencils and highlighters to revise and edit their drafts, while in art and science, the crayons and markers have brought color and creativity to student projects. One special moment was watching a group of students excitedly compare marker colors while working on a class mural; their teamwork and enthusiasm filled the room.\r\n\r\nThese basic supplies have made a big difference in our classroom routines. Students are more organized, responsible, and engaged in their work. They take ownership of their learning because they have the tools they need right at their desks. Next, we'll be using these materials for upcoming projects that combine writing and art—allowing students to express their ideas creatively while reinforcing academic skills. Your generosity has provided more than supplies; it's helped foster confidence, independence, and joy in learning. Recently, during a collaborative math project, students worked in groups to solve complex problems. They used the board to map out equations, draw diagrams, and create color-coded flowcharts. It's been a fantastic tool for brainstorming and visualizing their ideas, helping them understand the material more deeply.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the whiteboard, their reactions were priceless—there were audible gasps and wide-eyed excitement. They immediately started brainstorming ways to use it in lessons and jumped at the chance to test it out, taking turns at the board to demonstrate its features. They feel empowered by the space and technology.\r\n\r\nNext, we're diving into a project-based learning unit on native Americans. As we learn about the different tribes that existed in America they are allowed to write an interesting fact on the board. They love that the board is multi-purpose and can hold their anchor charts, and still have writing on it.","fullyFundedDate":1731523619391,"projectUrl":"project/mission-whiteboard/8496165/","projectTitle":"Mission Whiteboard","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Vargas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9131656_orig.jpg?crop=3005,3005,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691280976289","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9131656"},{"teacherId":9131656,"projectId":8608725,"letterContent":"The new LEGO resources have already made a huge impact in the classroom! My students were thrilled when they first saw the sets — it sparked excitement and instantly engaged them in learning.\r\n\r\nOne of our first projects involved building an addition and subtraction sentence out of LEGO bricks, combining math and storytelling. Students applied basic arithmetic and vocabulary to build a Lego equation. The best part was seeing them work together, experiment, and learn from their mistakes. \r\n\r\nNext, we'll take our LEGO projects to the next level by experimenting with different materials and challenges like building structures. Students will document their process, reflecting on what worked and what they can improve — integrating literacy and self-assessment.\r\n\r\nThanks to the generous donors, these LEGOs are helping my students develop critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork, setting them up for success in future challenges!","fullyFundedDate":1724885465499,"projectUrl":"project/lego-mania/8608725/","projectTitle":"Lego Mania","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Vargas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9131656_orig.jpg?crop=3005,3005,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691280976289","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9131656"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_45636","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":586,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":38,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":17,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":49,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.1,"schoolId":45636,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about V Boone - Highland Oaks Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"V Boone - Highland Oaks Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/miami-dade-county-public-schools/v-boone-highland-oaks-elementary-school/45636"}
