We have learned about the upcoming Winter Olympics, the fate of the penny, and school lunch programs. My favorite issue from Scholastic News was about Manatees because we spent two weeks in our ELA block learning all about manatees. The Scholastic News issue reinforced what we had learned, as well as brought in another trusted resource to link classroom learning to real-world issues.\r\nBesides learning time with me, Scholastic News issues have provided independent learning opportunities, as well as excellent content for guest teachers to use for teaching.
