When I added the new books to the shelves, the students were so excited to have all the new options! Having a stocked classroom library creates such a lasting impact on their academic skills and their social-emotional skills.\r\n\r\nThe stories like \"Biscuit\" and \"Pete the Cat\" have been added to the Accelerated Reader (AR) shelf. In a Title 1 school, there are such a wide range of reading levels. Some students are beginning readers, and some can read way above grade level. With such a huge range of reading levels, the more books we have, the more student needs I can fulfill! \r\n\r\nSome of the stories, like \"My Brain is a Race Car\" and \"The Girl Who Makes A Million Mistakes\" have been added to our read aloud library, and the calm down corner. These stories have been great tools to use when teaching social-emotional learning. After I taught the lesson, the book is added to the calm down corner so students can reference it when needed. \r\n\r\nOverall, the impact of having a variety of books is so huge.
