At first, it simply seemed like a practical addition — a place to store snacks, drinks, or art supplies that needed to be kept cool. But within a short time, it became something much more profound. It became a tool for compassion, stability, and dignity for my students.\r\nDuring the government shutdown, many families in our community faced unexpected financial strain. Some parents experienced delays in receiving food stamp benefits, and as a result, several of my students were coming to school hungry. \r\nAs a teacher, one of the hardest things to witness is a child trying to learn while their basic needs aren't met. No lesson, no matter how creative or engaging, can fully reach a hungry child. That's where the refrigerator made all the difference. It gave us the ability to store nutritious snacks, fruit, and water.\r\nThe refrigerator wasn't just feeding bodies; it was nurturing hearts.\r\nHaving access to food and drinks during the day has created consistency and trust — students know that their well-being matters as much as their academic growth. That trust strengthens every part of our classroom dynamic, from participation to peer support.\r\nOn a deeper level, this experience reminded me of why I became a teacher. Education isn't only about academics; it's about nurturing the whole child — mind, body, and soul. Sometimes that means using paint, paper, and imagination. Other times, it means offering a sandwich, a bottle of water, or a moment of understanding. This refrigerator allowed us to do all of that.","fullyFundedDate":1754857217591,"projectUrl":"project/on-your-mark-get-set-freeze/9544766/","projectTitle":"On Your Mark, Get Set, Freeze","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ashley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9229568"},{"teacherId":9229568,"projectId":9073267,"letterContent":"My art students have been so excited to use the new resources in our classroom! The paper shredder has become an integral part of our creative projects, allowing us to safely recycle old papers into materials for art lessons and projects. \r\nThe healthy snacks have been just as impactful, supporting students' well-being in meaningful ways. One memorable moment occurred when a student arrived at school upset because they had missed breakfast. I offered them a snack from our classroom supply, and it turned their morning around. This reinforced the importance of having these resources available. Moments like these remind me how crucial it is to address students' emotional and physical needs alongside their academic growth. These contributions from our donors have truly enriched our classroom environment, ensuring students feel supported and ready to learn.
