Thanks to your support, we now have the materials necessary to bring word building into our daily routine. These resources are essential in helping my students develop the early literacy skills that will serve as the foundation for their future reading and writing success.\r\n\r\nHow are we using the new resources?\r\n\r\nWord building is an integral part of our day in first grade, and the new materials are already making a huge difference. We use them every day in our phonics lessons, where students engage in hands-on activities that help them break words into sounds and blend them together. This not only supports their decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling) skills, but it also strengthens their phonemic awareness. As we focus on combining sounds and letters, students are developing a deeper understanding of how language works, which will benefit them for years to come.\r\n\r\nA specific classroom moment:\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting moments came when we used the new word-building resources for the first time. The students were absolutely thrilled to explore the materials! I'll never forget the look on their faces when they saw the magnetic letters, picture cards, and word charts. They dove right in, eager to build and read words. One student said, \"I made the word join! I can read it all by myself!\" It was such a proud moment for both the student and me, as it showed how much progress they had made in just a short time.\r\n\r\nHow did students react to the materials?\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were priceless. They were excited, curious, and immediately engaged. It was clear that the hands-on nature of these resources made learning feel more like a fun activity than a lesson. They were eager to explore and experiment with the letters and words, and I could see their confidence growing as they successfully decoded and built new words. This excitement has translated into a stronger sense of pride in their reading and writing abilities.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for our classroom projects?\r\n\r\nAs we continue our phonics lessons, the next step for my students is to build even more complex words and practice applying their new skills to reading and writing short sentences. With these materials, they will not only strengthen their vocabulary but also expand their fluency. Our upcoming project involves creating word families—groups of words that share the same base sound or letter pattern—so that they can identify patterns in words and increase their confidence in reading new words independently. These skills are critical as we prepare them for more challenging reading and writing tasks in the future.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our classroom is filled with eager learners who are gaining the skills they need to be confident readers and writers. Your donation has made a lasting impact, and I can't wait to see how these resources continue to support my students' growth.\r\n\r\nWith heartfelt thanks","fullyFundedDate":1739238211135,"projectUrl":"project/build-it-read-it-write-it/8964225/","projectTitle":"Build It!
