Data shows that students who are read to show better early literacy development skills--and while we read books in our classroom EVERY day, our children are always thirsty for more. The Yoto Player has offered us such great opportunity to allow our children to \"read along\" with some great classic stories; and even the chance for Mrs. EK to record herself reading books that are part of our curriculum and unit studies so that children can enjoy them long after read aloud is through. They have also enjoyed our new musician studies--hearing songs from various artists in many genres, from Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong to Vivaldi. The Yoto opens the world for them in this real, approachable way.\r\n\r\nThe ability to self-select the activity has been such a joy for our children; but additionally, they experience great satisfaction at their ability to change from book to music and control the device independently. The adults especially love that they can do so in a screen-free way. They love the ability to snuggle up in a comfortable area and appreciate the beautiful SEL posters that decorate and offer the opportunity to process how they are feeling and what they are thinking alongside the experience.\r\n\r\nWe have found that the device is especially helpful for the children in our Special Education population; they love the ability to get sensory input while simultaneously blocking out the noise of the classroom for awhile.
