Students were curious about the books when they first saw them. Once we began to work in the books together as a group, or in some classes when the students worked in them independently and individually--I saw a light \"turn on\" with many of them. Students who had been detached, or even frustrated because they understood little or no English--now had familiar Spanish words to compare to the English words and pictures. Quite a few students asked immediately asked if they could keep the books and take them home so they could practice, even before I assigned them. Some were eager to work with a family member at home to learn more English vocabulary. \r\nIn class, students were able to use the books to work in pairs with confidence, assisting each other with an enthusiasm not present with other assignments.
