Because of you, my students have had the opportunity to dive into an exciting research experience and grow as both readers and writers.\r\n\r\nThe purpose of these books was to guide students through researching an Arctic animal and using what they learned to write an informational piece. Through this process, students practiced important literacy skills such as identifying key details, organizing information, taking notes, and turning their research into clear, structured writing. They also learned how to use nonfiction text features and domain-specific vocabulary to better understand and explain their topics.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has been active and purposeful. Students explored books with a goal in mind. You would see them reading closely, jotting down notes, sharing discoveries with classmates, and revisiting texts to deepen their understanding. This kind of focused reading helped them see themselves as researchers and authors.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting parts of this project was bringing their writing to life. After completing their informational pieces, students used a book creator app to publish their work in a digital book format. This gave them a real sense of pride and ownership, knowing their work could be shared and read by others. Many students who are typically hesitant writers were especially motivated by the opportunity to create and publish their own books, and they put in extra effort to make their writing their very best.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a meaningful difference by helping students build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and experience the full writing process from research to publication. Our class is so grateful for your role in making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1773855104040,"projectUrl":"project/into-the-arctic-exploring-animals-throu/9984612/","projectTitle":"Into the Arctic: Exploring Animals Through Research","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ryan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6279385_orig.jpg?crop=4284,4284,x0,y357&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767743099513","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6279385"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38199","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":497,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":72,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"2 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"24.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":86.7,"schoolId":38199,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Garden Prairie Intermediate School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Garden Prairie Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/beloit-turner-school-district/townview-elementary-school/38199"}
