All of the requested items arrived during summer break, after the school year had ended. Rather than allowing this delay to prevent us from completing the project, students decided to expand the project and share it with a much larger audience when the school community returned.\r\n\r\nOn August 13, Tokay High School welcomed more than 500 families for our Back-to-School event. This provided an excellent opportunity for our students to turn **\"Plant a Seed, Grow a Future\"** into a true student-led community service project. Members of M.E.Ch.A., Leos Club, Hispanic Honor Society, and Folklórico Club each hosted a table where children, students, parents, and community members could participate in hands-on activities.\r\n\r\nThe main activity at our table was made possible through the support of the grant and the materials received for the project. We offered families a wide variety of seeds, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers, along with soil and planting supplies. Families were able to choose a container and personalize it by coloring or decorating it. They then selected a seed, planted it in soil, watered it, and took their new starter plant home.\r\n\r\nThis activity directly supported the original goals of **\"Plant a Seed, Grow a Future.\"** Instead of simply teaching families about food sustainability, students allowed families to begin growing food themselves. Our message was simple: **it only takes one seed to begin growing a healthier and more sustainable future.**\r\n\r\nThe project also provided students with valuable leadership and service-learning experiences. Students organized the planting station, prepared materials, explained the planting process, assisted younger children and families, and encouraged participants to continue caring for their plants at home. Through this experience, students practiced teamwork, responsibility, communication, and community leadership.\r\n\r\nOur goal was to help families take the first step toward creating their own home gardens. Growing vegetables and other plants at home can provide access to fresh produce, encourage healthier eating habits, promote self-sufficiency, and potentially help families supplement their meals while reducing grocery expenses. Most importantly, the project showed students that addressing community needs can begin with a simple, meaningful action.\r\n\r\nAlthough the project schedule had to be adjusted because the materials arrived during summer break, the delay ultimately allowed us to reach a much larger audience than originally planned. Rather than limiting the project to students participating during the school year, we were able to share it with hundreds of families at our Back-to-School event.\r\n\r\nMore photographs and documentation will be added as students and community members continue to share images from the event. We are proud that the materials provided through this project helped our students serve their community and inspire families to plant a seed, grow food, and grow a future together.","fullyFundedDate":1779126520144,"projectUrl":"project/plant-a-seed-grow-a-future/10193867/","projectTitle":"Plant a seed, Grow a Future","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hernández","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6758168_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y314&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660710542507","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6758168"},{"teacherId":932837,"projectId":10270218,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation to purchase some extra rolls of Flash Forge 3D printer filament, a filament dryer, and storage bags.
