The moment they saw the new art supplies and cultural craft materials, their excitement filled the room—students immediately began imagining the artifacts they could create to represent the traditions we are studying.\r\n\r\nWe recently completed a project on Hispanic culture where students used the new materials to design their own mini ofrendas and papel picado. One student proudly said, \"I've seen these before, but I never got to make one!\" Their creations became not only beautiful displays but powerful tools for understanding symbolism, tradition, and perspective. When students silently trade one another from non-pitched percussion instruments to pitched instruments, the transition is seamless due to the accessibility of each instrument. Students Kindergarten to 6th grade enjoy playing the instruments and experience success in simple to complex arrangements, such as a simple bordun accompaniment to a song or a complex, 6-part piece (currently \"Carol of the Bells\"), and through the creative process of improvisation, composing music in the moment.\r\nInstruments, always taught to treat with respect, are not on the floor, and safe from damage as students navigate to their instrument.
