Every morning, the students get the animal they like, place the animals around their shoulders and the weighted stuffed animal on their backs, and sit in their seats, entirely focused and working on their assignments. Fewer students get out of their seats and roam around the classroom. The students have also shown a decrease in stemming. At times, some of my students would get so active in their stemming that they would almost flip their chairs. I genuinely appreciate the Donor Choose program and all the sponsors that have helped my class over the years. The items that have been donated benefit their learning and help them learn how to stem safely. The smiles on my student's faces when they saw the hug animals arrived. Not only do my autistic students love to use the hug animals, but many adults come and use them at times when they need a break and a hug. My students love their weighted friends when they need help to calm down. They also love their building activities, which help them plan and build. The building activities also help them with hand-eye coordination. Our class is slowly working on creating a sensory room in our school building at Thomas Eaton Fundamental Middle School in VA.
