The students were beyond excited as they opened their brand new headphones, and seeing every child receive their own pair made them feel valued and included. What may seem like a simple tool has already made a tremendous difference in their daily learning experience. For the first time this school year, every student has reliable access to technology support without device or headphone issues disrupting instruction. Students are now able to focus better, complete assignments independently, participate in listening activities with confidence, and fully engage in learning without distractions or having to share broken equipment. This donation has helped create a smoother, more equitable classroom environment where all students have the tools they need to succeed, and we are incredibly grateful for this support.","fullyFundedDate":1772135108031,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-for-goals/10080698/","projectTitle":"Headphones for Goals","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Estrella","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lailaestrella"},{"teacherId":10411727,"projectId":10039035,"letterContent":"Thank you for your support of our cow eyeball dissection! It was a tremendous success. The students showed such curiosity and focus, and most importantly they were having fun!! \r\n I know this activity is a tradition and Stonehurst and after this year it is clear why. From a teaching perspective this was a joint effort between Mr. McDaniel & Mrs. Estrella. We also had excellent support from Mrs. Gonzalez & Mrs. Eylands as well as setup help from Mrs. Carmen. The whole Stonehurst team worked together (synergy much?) \r\n I think it's interesting to note that even students who had expressed concerns and fears beforehand were excitedly dissecting once we got started. I think they will remember this hands-on science experiment for a long time. The lap desk trays have supported flexible seating in a really meaningful way—students are more comfortable, more focused, and able to choose a learning space that works best for them. During literacy centers, the printing letters practice books have helped students strengthen handwriting skills with structured, repeated practice, and they were immediately excited to use something that felt both fun and purposeful.\r\n\r\nThe sight word tower games quickly became a favorite during group centers. Students are highly motivated to read sight words correctly so they can keep building their towers, and it has turned repetition into a collaborative and exciting activity. In math, the measure activity set has been especially impactful for our lesson on greater than and less than. Instead of just comparing numbers on paper, students were able to physically measure objects and see the differences in a hands-on way, which really helped the concept click for many of them.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to keep building independence and deeper understanding using these tools. Students will continue rotating through centers where they practice sight words, strengthen writing skills, and apply math concepts in hands-on ways. We're also working toward having students explain their thinking more clearly during math activities and use their new literacy skills in simple writing tasks.","fullyFundedDate":1769177695929,"projectUrl":"project/ms-alvarados-small-group-instruction-p/9776955/","projectTitle":"Ms. Alvarado's Small Group Instruction Project","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Alvarado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10167927"},{"teacherId":1188621,"projectId":9762532,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our DonorsChoose project, Family STEAM Night.\" As a school that focuses on science, technology, engineering, art, and math, it is important that we involve our families to show them how they can support learning at home. After conducting an inventory of our emergency bin, we realized we were missing some key items. Although we have buckets to serve as temporary toilets, we didn't have anything to give students privacy. Having the pop-up privacy pods is going to be really important so that students will have a place to use the restroom in private in case of an emergency.\r\n\r\nWe also wanted to make sure that our staff all had safety vests so they can be identified easily by children in case of an emergency. The class set of headphones has made a huge difference during i-Ready time, allowing students to focus on their personalized reading and math lessons without distractions. They are able to hear instructions clearly, work independently, and stay engaged in their learning. The writing tablets have been a game-changer in small group instruction. Students are eager to write, erase, and try again, which has made phonics practice and sentence building feel fun instead of intimidating. During math time, the math cubes come out for hands-on games where students build numbers, model addition and subtraction, and work together to solve problems. On Fun Fridays, the puzzles have become a favorite choice, encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and calm, joyful moments at the end of the week.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were priceless. There were gasps, big smiles, and lots of \"Are these really for us?\" The headphones made them feel so grown-up, the writing tablets were immediately grabbed with excitement, and the math cubes turned math time into something they couldn't wait for. Even students who are usually hesitant to participate jumped right in.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our next steps are even more exciting. We are currently working on building complete sentences and explaining our thinking in math. With these resources, students will continue rotating through small groups where they practice writing, listening, and hands-on math skills at their own pace. These tools are helping them build independence, confidence, and a love for learning—and that is something they will carry with them far beyond first grade. Because of you, our school now has radios that have greatly improved communication among all school employees, helping us better support students throughout the day.\r\n\r\nWhile many people use technology at home, school communication tools serve a different and very important purpose. The radios allow staff to communicate quickly and clearly in real time, which helps us respond promptly to student needs, coordinate support, and maintain a safe, well-organized learning environment. When adults can communicate efficiently, students benefit from smoother transitions, fewer disruptions, and more time focused on learning.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part of this new technology for our staff and students is the immediate connection it provides. Whether it's calling for assistance, sharing important information, or coordinating during busy times like arrival, recess, or dismissal, the radios make everyone feel more connected and supported. Students have noticed how quickly adults can help and how calmly situations are handled, which gives them a stronger sense of security at school.\r\n\r\nCertain students have especially benefited from this improved communication. Students who need additional support—whether for medical, behavioral, or social-emotional needs—are receiving help more quickly and consistently. Knowing that adults can communicate instantly has helped these students feel safer and more confident, and it has allowed staff to proactively meet their needs.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made a lasting impact on our school community by strengthening communication, safety, and support for every student.
