They love using the feelings the mirrors to identify their feelings. We've added the feelings pop-its to our emotional calm down bins. Kyle the Calm Down Koala has been helping us to learn to slow down and breathe.\r\n The laminating sheets have been very helpful as we make individualized materials for each of students to help them deal with their emotions and to create new games and learning activities for all three of the kindergarten classrooms at my school.\r\n\r\n Although some of our first choice activities weren't available, we were able to get some new magnetic blocks to use at self select time to let out some energy and a coloring book to talk about feelings words. We are saving the cocoa and marshmallow fidgets as a fun surprise to use in January when we come back from winter break.\r\n Thank you for your continued support of our students. For some of my students who struggle with attention and sensory regulation, these tools have quickly become an essential part of our routine. The students appear more focused and eager to participate in activities. They are also working hard to earn the squishy fidgets during evaluations which keep them motivated and engaged.\r\n\r\nWe've already used the new materials in several engaging lessons. During individual and small group speech sessions, students have used the voice recording buttons to practice using core vocabulary words (e.g. \"more\", \"go\") and to answer \"yes\" and \"no\" questions. The magnetic tiles and balloon launcher sets have been a hit for language building. Students are learning to take turns, describe (e.g. \"the balloon is getting bigger\", \"ready, set, go\"). Even the kinetic sand and felt board pieces have become go to tools for hands-on vocabulary building helping my students bring their words to life through touch and movement.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students now have a classroom that meets their needs. These materials have transformed our space into one that encourages creativity and communication. When we begin science, my students will also use them when making science observations. \r\nThe dry erase, yellow hexagons will be used in a few weeks when we begin reading groups. I use the 10 lap desks during our reading rotations. When it is time for a student to go to the read to self rotation, the student gets a lap desk and books and finds a spot on the carpet to read independently. This helps with classroom management, because students can place their lap desk in the direction that faces away from their peers, so they can focus on their reading. The lap desks also help keep my kindergarteners from rolling and/or crawling around on the carpet during this rotation. \r\nI use the 2 flexible back cushion seats as a reward students can buy with their earned dojo points for behavior to use during their read to self rotation. At times, I also allow these to be used in our calm down corner.\r\nIt has been so nice having a safe chart stand that doesn't constantly need to be hot glued and taped. We had planned to paint the rocks outside as a large group all together, but rainy weather had us break up into 6 smaller groups inside. The paint pens were easy for our students to use and the clear spray paint will keep the rocks colorful for a long time. We even have rocks left over to use next year with our new students!
