The Bean bag chairs have been a source of comfort during our break times and the snacks have helped the kids get through each day bridging the gap between lunch time and when they go home. \r\nThe colored pencils, markers and Dry erase markers have made it a fun and interesting during instruction time because the kids are able to have their own supplies without having to share. In our classroom—an emotional and behavioral support setting for students in grades K–5—this project became so much more than just putting items into bags. Students practiced important life skills such as following directions, organizing materials, taking turns, and working cooperatively. One powerful moment was watching students carefully count and sort items, making sure each bag was \"just right,\" while talking about how their work would help other kids feel cared for and supported.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students were eager to help and took great pride in being trusted with an important responsibility. For many, this was a meaningful shift—from needing support themselves to being helpers for others. We saw increased engagement, positive behavior, and genuine empathy as students realized the impact they could have. It was incredibly rewarding to hear them say things like, \"This will help someone not be hungry,\" and \"I want to make sure every bag is full.\"\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to build on this experience by continuing service-learning opportunities that connect social-emotional growth with real-world impact. Students will reflect on their experiences through discussions and writing, and we hope to expand projects like this to include other ways of supporting our school community. Your support has not only provided tangible resources but has also helped our students develop compassion, responsibility, and a sense of purpose—skills that will stay with them far beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1771621211481,"projectUrl":"project/take-home-snack-program/10087262/","projectTitle":"Take-Home Snack Program","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jacobsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5383560_orig.jpg?crop=124,124,x0,y9&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750441107721","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5383560"},{"teacherId":10276786,"projectId":9780639,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity in supporting \"STEM Supplies for Our Peace Room: Creating Calm and Curiosity,\" our students now have access to hands-on technology that is transforming both how they learn and how they regulate their emotions. Many of you use technology at home, but in our school, these STEM tools are doing more than entertaining—they are teaching problem-solving, critical thinking, and emotional regulation all at once. Students are using engineering kits, building challenges, and interactive materials to explore concepts like force, motion, design, and cause-and-effect. At the same time, the structured, tactile nature of these tools helps students slow down, focus, and reset when they are feeling overwhelmed. Technology in our Peace Room has become a bridge between calming the body and engaging the mind.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about the new materials is the freedom to create. They light up when they realize they can design, test, adjust, and try again without fear of being \"wrong.\" The room has become a safe space where curiosity leads the way. One student who often struggled with frustration now eagerly asks to visit the Peace Room to work on building challenges; he takes deep breaths, focuses on assembling pieces, and proudly shares his finished designs. Another student who typically avoids academic tasks has discovered a love for problem-solving through our STEM bins and now volunteers to demonstrate her creations to classmates. These moments of confidence and calm are powerful.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped us create more than just a resource space—it has created opportunities for resilience, discovery, and joy.
