They were thrilled when they first saw the alcohol markers, Prismacolor colored pencils, and organized drawer carts, and several students commented that it felt like they were working in a real studio rather than just a classroom.\r\n Drawing 3 students are currently using the supplies in their sustained investigation projects, where they explore a personal theme across a series of related artworks. The alcohol markers help them build strong, vibrant foundations, while the Prismacolor colored pencils let them refine details, textures, and subtle shading as they push each piece further.\r\n The organized carts have also helped these advanced students take ownership of their materials and process, since they are responsible for accessing and returning supplies efficiently so they can maximize their work time. Your support has given them the tools they need to create more ambitious, thoughtful work, and they are genuinely proud of what they are producing.","fullyFundedDate":1759266136555,"projectUrl":"project/artistry-unleashed/9564207/","projectTitle":"Artistry Unleashed","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lindsey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9820799_orig.jpg?crop=761,761,x46,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730385466402","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9820799"},{"teacherId":2555627,"projectId":9621188,"letterContent":"When our new industrial sewing machine arrived, my students gathered around it as if it were a new member of our art family. With eyes wide, hands ready, and ideas spilling out faster than I could write them down. The sound of that first stitch was met with cheers! They were amazed at how smoothly it glided through thick materials like canvas and leather, which were things our older classroom machines could never handle.\r\n\r\nWe've already started a fiber-arts unit exploring function and form through material design. Students are creating a collaborative collection of tote bags and small pouches using canvas, denim, and leather scraps, each stitched with personal motifs that reflect their identities, cultures, and stories. They've been learning to measure, cut, and assemble layers of fabric, problem-solve construction issues, and experiment with durable design. It's hands-on learning at its truest: artistic, technical, and deeply personal.\r\n\r\nThe new equipment has changed the energy in our classroom. Students who were once hesitant about sewing now volunteer to help others thread needles, troubleshoot tension, and adjust speed controls. They've gained confidence not only in their craft but in their ability to persist when something doesn't go right on the first try. The hum of the machine has become the heartbeat of our studio, a steady rhythm of creativity and care.\r\n\r\nNext, we're planning to expand into mixed-media textile art that combines hand-stitching, embroidery, and leatherwork. These projects will become part of our end-of-semester exhibition celebrating how traditional craft connects to modern design and sustainability. Your gift helped make this possible, and every student who sits at that sewing machine is reminded that someone out there believes in the power of art education.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the chance to explore, create, and grow. You didn't just help us buy a machine, you helped build confidence, pride, and community.","fullyFundedDate":1759266137342,"projectUrl":"project/canvas-leather-cotton-oh-my/9621188/","projectTitle":"Canvas, Leather, Cotton, Oh My!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Allison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2555627_orig.jpg?crop=715,715,x0,y7&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755699002590","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2555627"},{"teacherId":2555627,"projectId":5049075,"letterContent":"When the new resources arrived, my students were immediately excited and curious. We used them right away for a classroom project where students worked both independently and in groups to experiment, create, and share their ideas.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was watching a student who usually hesitates to participate dive right in, using the materials with confidence and pride. The tools gave them a chance to express themselves in new ways and to see their creativity come to life.\r\n\r\nNow, we are building on this momentum by expanding into our next project, where students will take what they've learned and push themselves further—developing stronger skills, collaborating with each other, and connecting their work to bigger ideas. Many couldn't believe these beautiful supplies were actually for them to use. The moment they realized this project was real and that someone believed in their creativity enough to make it happen was incredibly powerful. One student held up a charm pack and said, \"I've never touched fabric this pretty before.\" That moment of joy and curiosity set the tone for what has become one of the most exciting learning experiences we've had in our art room.\r\n\r\nWe've already begun exploring fiber arts through hands-on activities like felting, weaving, and quilting. Students are learning to sketch and plan textile designs, then bring them to life using real tools and techniques. One group is designing a collaborative quilt inspired by personal symbols and cultural patterns—each square tells a story, and they're beginning to see how art can be both personal and communal. The serger has allowed us to explore professional finishing skills, giving their projects a polished look that builds both confidence and pride. For many students, this is the first time they've been able to work with high-quality materials, and they're learning not only technical skills, but also patience, problem-solving, and perseverance.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, we're building a space where creativity and craftsmanship come together. This project has transformed our art room into a true studio. Next, we'll be curating a student-led fiber arts gallery, where they'll present their finished pieces and artist statements to our school and community. These upgraded shelves will make a significant difference in the learning experience of our students.\r\n\r\nThe new kiln shelves are 19 times stronger and 50% lighter than traditional cordierite shelves. Their durability and resistance to warping, cracking, and glaze runs mean they will have a longer lifespan and require fewer replacements, ensuring a lasting impact on our program. Additionally, their lightweight design improves safety and usability, making them easier for students to handle and clean.\r\n\r\nThese improvements not only enhance the quality of our students' work by providing better firing results but also expose them to industry-standard materials. With some positive encouragement, they found the motivation to try again, ultimately achieving success. This experience beautifully illustrates how we often allow our setbacks to overshadow our potential triumphs.\r\nWheel throwing has proven to be an excellent medium for teaching persistence. It creates a low-stakes environment where students feel safe to experiment, occasionally fail, and ultimately succeed. This process is instrumental in building their confidence and problem-solving skills.\r\nThe pottery wheels have been an incredible asset to our classroom, fostering a growth mindset and helping students overcome their fear of failure. Quite a few of them were so excited to start throwing right away! We have more wheels per class size now. They come in asking if they can throw on the wheels, because it's now possible! It's incredibly nice to have another wheel because, once kids see others throwing clay, they are drawn to the process.
