Our current books had been used for many years and have been taped and glued many times. Most had been missing at least one or more pages. It was time for new books!\r\n\r\nMy teaching partner and I always start the year with a read-aloud, along with the students reading their own free-choice books. We focus on teaching the kids ways that readers think about their reading. There are six strategies that we focus on: summarizing, inferencing, visualizing, predicting, asking questions, and making connections to the text. \r\n\r\nIn addition, we also use this book to introduce figurative language to the kids.
