We used these materials during our forensic toxicology and drug analysis lab, where students became real-life forensic scientists for the day. Each group received \"unknown\" samples and had to test them to determine the presence of toxins.\r\n\r\nThey immediately dove into the investigation—measuring, labeling, and comparing results like professionals in a real lab. One of my favorite moments was hearing students debate their findings and defend their conclusions based on the evidence they gathered. It was such a proud teacher moment seeing them apply critical thinking and teamwork to solve their \"case.\"\r\n\r\nUp next, my students will build on these skills as we move into our forensic chemistry and blood analysis unit. We began by discussing real-world fire investigation techniques and how forensic scientists analyze burn patterns and structural damage to determine a fire's cause.\r\n\r\nEach student group worked together to design and construct a small-scale house model. The teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving that went into building these models were incredible to see! Students were quick to share ideas, measure carefully, and take pride in creating something that looked realistic.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for our class are to use these models to simulate and analyze fire scenes safely.
