What began as a simple incentive program to encourage positive behavior and recognize students for doing the right thing has grown into something far more essential.\r\n\r\nThrough this program, students are rewarded for responsibility, kindness, and effort—reinforcing positive choices and helping to create a supportive, respectful school environment. The snack cart quickly became a powerful motivator, giving students a tangible reminder that their actions matter and are noticed.\r\n\r\nHowever, in light of the recent government shutdown and ongoing economic challenges faced by many families, Will Work for Snacks has taken on an even more critical role. For some students, these snacks are no longer just a reward—they are a source of nourishment that helps ensure they can stay focused, engaged, and ready to learn throughout the school day. This program helps remove the barrier of hunger, allowing students to concentrate on their education rather than where their next meal may come from.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been felt beyond the students alone. Teachers in our building have seen firsthand how meaningful this program is, and several have volunteered to help supplement the snack supply to ensure it can continue even when resources run low. Their willingness to step in speaks volumes about the value of this project and the difference it makes in students' daily lives.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful to our donors for making Will Work for Snacks possible. Your generosity has supported positive behavior, strengthened our school culture, and, most importantly, helped ensure that no child goes hungry during the school day. Thank you for believing in our students and for making a real, compassionate difference in our community.","fullyFundedDate":1755878910985,"projectUrl":"project/will-work-for-snacks/9406201/","projectTitle":"Will Work for Snacks!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Conley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2045629"},{"teacherId":7566185,"projectId":9718932,"letterContent":"This project has given my Lighthouse Leadership class the opportunity to spread true joy and positivity throughout our school. By celebrating the little things—the everyday wins, the hidden talents, and the moments that deserve recognition—we've brought together clubs, sports teams, and extracurricular groups in a way that feels more unified than ever before.\r\n\r\nOur students are stepping into their roles as leaders with excitement and purpose. They're eager to help shape a new building culture grounded in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, where every student feels valued, capable, and seen. This is just the beginning, and we can already feel the difference their leadership is making.\r\n\r\nThis work matters deeply to us as we strive to build a more involved, inclusive school community. We want to be a place where every student feels accepted, celebrated, and connected—and our Lighthouse leaders are helping pave the way. They are at the forefront of everything we are doing, modeling what it looks like to lead with purpose and kindness.\r\n\r\nOur students are incredibly grateful for all the toys, candy, and donations they've received. These contributions not only support our current projects but also help us move closer to our larger goals of strengthening school culture, promoting unity, and spreading positivity throughout the building. Their excitement and gratitude remind us why this work is so important.","fullyFundedDate":1758496051824,"projectUrl":"project/sabercat-shoutouts/9718932/","projectTitle":"SaberCat Shoutouts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nance","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7566185"},{"teacherId":1058708,"projectId":9856268,"letterContent":"We have loved reading the Hunger Games. My students love the story and have done so well with the work that went with it. We read and answered questions so that students could understand the text. They were able to ask questions as topics came up. My students really enjoyed learning about dystopian societies. Our library did a great Hunger Games project to go with the book. It was an escape room, complete with a cornucopia and rubber tipped arrows and a target. The kids had so much fun with this book. I think it will be a unit they will remember forever.\r\n\r\nI will continue to use these book in the future with upcoming classes. It is a novel that really grabs their attention. Please check out the pictures that I've attached. My students thought it was so funny to take pictures and hide their face. Thank you so much for funding this project. This has been revolutionary for our students. We are able to use the games as incentives, to build community, to build relationships, and instructionally!!! Our students are learning and growing through simple board and card games. \r\n Teachers are pairing with other teachers who teach the same subject and grade. They will tell their classes that everyone with no missing assignments at the end of the month will receive a free class period to play games. Students with missing assignments will have to work on their missing assignments. One teacher supervises the students playing games. The other teacher works with those students who are missing assignments. This is a great incentive for students to stay on top of their assignments and complete them. Thank you for making this possible.\r\n This is just one example of how we have used them. We use them in many other ways as well. They made Welcome signs for every new faculty member. They made a sign for outside the teachers' lounge that welcomed all teachers back to school. Then they made signs for all the students. They made sure everyone felt welcome returning to school. This has created a positive and welcoming culture.\r\n\r\nStudents are now planning on creating signs for our first football game.
