After losing so many of my 2nd grade books to flooding in Burnsville, North Carolina during Hurricane Helene, it has been such a joy to place brand-new books into my students' hands. The excitement was immediate—students were gasping, hugging books to their chests, and asking, \"Can we read them now?\" They also independently organized our new books in the classroom library with such pride and excitement.\r\n\r\nThese new texts are helping us build critical reading skills every single day. As my second graders transition into chapter books, we are working on stamina, comprehension and vocabulary development. During independent reading time, our classroom is filled with focused, engaged readers, excited to finish their book and go pick another awesome new book.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my emerging readers, who once felt intimidated by longer books, are now proudly finishing their first chapter books independently. Watching their confidence grow has been the greatest gift of all. Your kindness has strengthened not only their literacy skills but also their belief in themselves as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1764866608520,"projectUrl":"project/avid-readers-need-more-books/9843154/","projectTitle":"Avid Readers Need More Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McMillan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8470163"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3692","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":106,"numTeachers":8,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":53.8,"schoolId":3692,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Toe Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Toe Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/yancey-county-school-district/south-toe-elementary-school/3692"}
