Students use these boards to practice their spelling words. The way that I have set this up as a motivational tool, is that, those students who pass their spelling test the previous week, will get to use the gel boards to practice on for the following week. Everyone in my classroom strives to pass. Spelling homework is being completed, students are studying their spelling words on their own, and they are encouraging and teaching each other. This little tool is doing wonders for my Second Graders!\r\n Also, the little trinkets that I ordered are used to motivate students to read books and pass levels. When they get five books read, they get to choose one of the little trinkets. They are working hard in reading and now some of my students want to read chapter books! Reading is not just homework! It's turning into something that my students LOVE to do! I was able to purchase several items to help my English Language Learners gain confidence to participate in class and group. It makes me so happy to know there are people like you that see the value in educating our students who are learning a new language. There can be quite the barrier sometimes getting them to open up! The items I purchased has already made an impact! \r\n One of the items I purchased was earbuds that will help to translate from one language to another. This tool will be so helpful with our parents that come in and need to communicate with our office staff or myself. The day after I got them in the mail, I had them out and used them to help a mother with some questions she had about a computer issue. It was so nice to be able to offer the support she needed to fully understand what we were saying.\r\n Some of the other products I was able to purchase were board games. These items are being used to help with opportunities for conversational speaking. I have several students who are excellent English speakers but need the practice with peers to gain more confidence to volunteer answers in class, not just a small group. By playing these games with the students, they are more relaxed in speaking and I can help with errors I hear while playing.
