I am a firm believer that everything starts at home - food insecurity, hygiene, as well as feelings of belonging. \r\n\r\nI was so grateful to hear that donors, regular people with extra space in their heart for education, were able to fully fund my project. Another teacher and I have been working to create a pantry for our students. Once our list arrived, we were able to use an empty classroom to create a free-store for our students to visit when needed. The students have asked for deodorant throughout the school week, or have mentioned that they ran out over the weekend. Also, we have given the students an opportunity to pick a few items on Fridays to take home. This includes, microwave noodles, snacks, and body wash, as well as tampons and other feminine hygiene projects. \r\n\r\nMy students are preparing to take their annual PSSAs. This is usually a stressful time for them, as a lot of them experience testing anxiety or mental exhaustion. Knowing that there are snacks at hand and that they don't have to worry about their basic hygiene needs alleviates the stress that they may have at home, so they no longer have to carry that stress to school with them.\r\n\r\nI am beyond gracious for the donors who funded my project.
