Your generosity did more than stock a few shelves. It gave my students something many of them don't always have guaranteed access to during the school day: peace of mind. When a student is hungry or dehydrated, it shows up in everything... energy, focus, mood, patience, and confidence. Sometimes it shows up as a headache and a slumped posture. Sometimes it shows up as irritability, shutting down, or acting out. And sometimes it shows up quietly, like a student who just can't seem to get started, no matter how many times I explain the directions. Having an emergency pantry in the classroom means I can meet a basic need quickly and discreetly, without making it a big deal or making a student feel singled out. That simple ability changes the entire tone of the day. It helps students settle in, regulate, and actually engage with learning instead of battling hunger through every class period.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, we received a thoughtful variety of items that truly match what students need in real life, not what looks good on paper. We now have bottled water for students who arrive thirsty or who have been through a long day without a drink. We received mini muffins, cereal bars, and cereal cups, which have become a lifesaver for students who arrive late and miss breakfast. It's hard to jump into a lesson when your stomach is loud enough to have its own opinion, and your donation helps prevent that. We also received warm, comforting options like oatmeal, which is especially helpful on cold mornings when students need something substantial to feel grounded and ready. For students who need something more filling, the pantry includes microwavable noodles, canned soups, and quick microwave rice, and those items have been incredibly impactful. They're easy to prepare, quick enough to fit into the rhythm of a school day, and they actually keep students full. We also received chips and honey buns, which students appreciate as quick energy boosts, and having a variety means I can offer something that fits different preferences and needs. And yes, the little candy you included has become a surprisingly powerful tool in the best way. It's not about sugar. It's about motivation and celebration. When students meet goals, complete a tough assignment, improve their attendance, or show growth in behavior and self-control, a small incentive helps reinforce that their effort matters and gets noticed.\r\nYour donation also included items that make this pantry sustainable: large plastic bins and a storage case to organize canned goods and supplies. That might not sound exciting at first, but in a busy classroom, it is everything. Organization is what turns \"we have snacks\" into \"we have a system.\" The bins keep items clean, easy to inventory, and easy to access quickly when a student needs something right away. The storage case keeps canned goods secure and organized so nothing gets crushed, lost, or wasted. It also helps me restock intentionally, track what students use most, and make sure the pantry stays available when it matters most. There's a big difference between a random pile of items and a pantry that functions smoothly, and you gave us the tools to make it function.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me create a classroom environment where students feel cared for, supported, and able to learn. Your kindness shows up in small daily moments: a student who stops rubbing their stomach and starts working, a late student who can still participate rather than feel defeated, and a student who meets a goal and smiles because someone noticed. I'm truly grateful for you, and my students are too.","fullyFundedDate":1762354009140,"projectUrl":"project/emergency-classroom-pantry-during-the-sh/9860390/","projectTitle":"Emergency Classroom Pantry During the Shutdown","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. M","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp432088_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1535409531183","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/432088"},{"teacherId":432088,"projectId":9532439,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting my project, Supplies Needed after Tornado Displacement, and for showing up for our school community after the St. Louis tornado in May 2025. When our building was damaged and we were displaced, we had to rebuild the feeling of \"school\" from the ground up in a completely different building. Students walked into unfamiliar hallways, unfamiliar routines, and a classroom that didn't yet feel like theirs. Your generosity helped change that faster than I can fully put into words. It didn't just replace items we lost. It restored structure, normalcy, and confidence in a time when many students were carrying stress they didn't necessarily have the language to explain. One of the biggest challenges of displacement is that learning can start to feel temporary, as if we are just passing through. Your support sent a loud and clear message: this space matters, these students matter, and their learning is worth investing in, even amid disruption.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my new classroom now has the tools and organization it needs to run smoothly and feel welcoming. The whiteboard or chalkboard has become our daily anchor. It's where we begin class with warm-ups, track goals, outline agendas, and celebrate progress, and it's also where students can simply see what comes next without anxiety. The calculators were a huge help in math class, especially since many of ours were ruined during the tornado disruption. Now, students can focus on problem-solving instead of worrying about whether they have the basic tools to participate. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card has already been used to purchase grammar resource books that make lessons more engaging and easier to differentiate, which is essential right now because students' skill gaps widened during the transition. The black toner cartridges for my desk printer have been a quiet but powerful lifeline. They allow me to print worksheets, practice sets, quick checks, and reading resources without delaying instruction or scrambling for limited shared printing access. And the drawer storage organizers have helped bring order back to our daily routines. When supplies have a consistent home, students spend less time searching and more time learning, and honestly, it also helps the classroom feel calmer and more predictable, which students truly need after a major event like this.\r\n\r\nYou also helped transform the \"feel\" of the room, not just the functionality. The ELA and history posters have brought the walls to life, reminding students that they are in a place where learning is valued and visible. Those visuals support instruction, spark curiosity, and make the room feel like a real classroom again rather than a borrowed space. The writing paper, notebooks, pencils, and composition books have been especially meaningful because they remove barriers that students often don't want to admit they're facing. With these materials available, every student can fully participate in writing tasks, note-taking, journaling, and structured responses without feeling embarrassed about not having what they need. That matters more than most people realize. After displacement, students crave stability, and stable routines often begin with simple things: having a notebook to return to each day, having a pencil that works, having paper ready when inspiration hits, and knowing they won't be singled out for not being prepared. Your donations helped restore that dignity and that rhythm. Thank you for being part of our recovery story, and for helping my students feel supported, capable, and ready to learn again. We are still rebuilding, but because of you, we are rebuilding with hope, with structure, and with the supplies that make learning possible every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1760198426265,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-needed-after-tornado-displaceme/9532439/","projectTitle":"Supplies Needed after Tornado Displacement","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. M","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp432088_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1535409531183","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/432088"},{"teacherId":9508753,"projectId":9660452,"letterContent":"On behalf of the Soldan senior class, we sincerely thank you for your generous donation to Apply Mo Week.
