Instead of only reading about CPR or watching a video, students are now able to practice in a hands-on environment where the manikins give real-time feedback on the speed and depth of their compressions. During one of our first practice sessions, students worked in small groups to \"respond\" to a cardiac emergency. As they performed compressions, the sensors helped them adjust their rhythm and pressure until they reached the correct speed. This immediate feedback allowed students to see exactly what effective CPR looks and feels like, helping them build both confidence and accuracy.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new equipment, their excitement was immediate. Many of them had seen CPR performed in movies or on television, but they had never had the opportunity to try it themselves. Once they realized the manikins could actually \"tell\" them whether they were pushing hard enough or fast enough, they became highly engaged and eager to improve their scores. The AED trainer also sparked a lot of curiosity. Students took turns following the prompts, placing the pads correctly, and learning how the device guides a rescuer through the process step by step. Watching their classmates practice made the experience feel real and meaningful, and students quickly understood the importance of staying calm and following the correct procedures.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue building their emergency response skills through scenario-based activities. They will practice responding to different simulated emergencies, rotating through roles such as the person performing CPR, the one operating the AED, and the individual calling for help. The goal is for students not only to remember the steps but to feel prepared to act if they ever encounter a real-life situation. Thanks to the generosity of you, our donors, these resources are helping students gain practical skills that could one day allow them to save a life. We cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity in giving us such a great gift of learning.","fullyFundedDate":1766177739979,"projectUrl":"project/stayin-alive/9824977/","projectTitle":"Stayin' Alive","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Richmer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4251469_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y41&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1611666413819","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/schspe"},{"teacherId":8133348,"projectId":9371706,"letterContent":"I can't begin to express how grateful myself and my students are for your support. The books you helped purchase are being used to help teach a unit on WWII, and civil injustices. Maus teaches the Holocaust, and the dehumanizing process the Jewish people went through. They Called Us Enemy teaches how Japanese American citizens were striped of their rights. Both look at how two separate groups of people lost not only physical, tangible items, like their homes, but also, in many cases, their lives. They are ultimately, stories of perseverance. \r\nWhen we read in my class, we out loud and together. This helps my students who are lower level, are English Learners, and those who don't care to read. We stop and recap, ask questions, and check for understanding.
