I was shocked to see how quickly my request was fulfilled. On Back to School Night, I told the parents about your donation, and many had tears in their eyes at the thought of someone being so kind and generous. \r\nI want to thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts. Before, the materials would only allow 2-3 children to use them at a time. With 21 students, that could mean up to 10 stations! By adding to the sets, we are able to make groups of 4-6 students. These group sizes foster collaborative thinking, strategic planning, and commuciation skills practice. In addition, students have more variety and various ways to show their interests and skills. \r\nEven though the students are 4-5 years old, they are quite capable of using their dexterity to create intricate designs. For those who struggle, we have created task cards that show examples of designs for them to replicate. \r\nThe greatest effect that we have noticed is the increase in imaginative play. With technology being widely used, children have less and less practice using their imaginations which causes less curiosity and innovation. Parents write the child's name and check off each day they read together. Students return the books the following week for someone else to use.\r\nOn occasion, students ask to look at the books in the classroom, so we will set out different titles and topics for them to choose. Then they sit or lie on the big carpet (often with a classmate) and look through the books, discussing what they see and make text-to-life connections!\r\nNext year, we will add to the collection, keeping up with changing student interest and new titles and characters.
