The clay has been absolutely transformative for my ceramics and sculpture students. It has allowed us to move beyond simply practicing techniques and to focus on truly ambitious, year-long projects.\r\nStudents produced full sets of nested bowls, plates, and mugs, giving students a genuine sense of creating a cohesive, usable collection. Students were also able to explore challenging forms like large coil-built containers and complex, lidded jars on the pottery wheel. \r\nThe students' reaction to the arrival of the new clay was priceless! When I rolled the cart full of boxes into the studio, there was an initial moment of quiet, followed by a collective gasp. They didn't just see clay; they saw opportunity—for all of the incredible work they would now be able to make. \r\nThe students are currently in the most exciting and critical stage of their clay projects: the firing process and glazing. All of the bone-dry clay pieces (like their containers and dinnerware sets) have gone into the kiln for their first firing. This transforms the fragile clay into a durable, porous ceramic known as bisque ware.\r\nThe next step is for students to apply glazes—the liquid mixture of minerals and chemicals that turn into a colorful, glassy surface in the final firing. They are currently researching different glaze application methods (dipping, brushing, pouring) and selecting color palettes that will best enhance the form and texture of their pieces.\r\nThe final step will be glaze firing. The pieces will go into the kiln a final time at much higher temperatures (up to 2300 degreees) to melt the glaze into its permanent, brilliant finish. This is the moment of truth where all their hard work is revealed!\r\nWe can't wait to share photos of the finished, colorful, and functional works of art with our donors when they come out of the final glaze firing!","fullyFundedDate":1707158502770,"projectUrl":"project/clay-for-class/7934427/","projectTitle":"Clay for Class","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. O'Neill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8887383_orig.jpg?crop=594,594,x94,y20&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724618020731","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8887383"},{"teacherId":9245786,"projectId":8612921,"letterContent":"Our students were beyond excited when the new Transmission Drain Pan, Oil Lift Drain, and Oil Drain Splash Pad Mat arrived! Students no longer have to worry about their technology not being charged or lasting throughout the class period and/or school day. They are more focused throughout the lesson and aren't distracted by the computer interrupting their learning with notifications of low battery.\r\n\r\nThe charging stations I was able to locate in the center of my room and I have noticed, my students come in and sit in concentric circles around the power. They plug in and assist others in plugging in. Some of my students want to be the first to be by the tower so they can be the ones to help others charge up. \r\n\r\nEvery class has those students who are anxious or so extremely shy they will not speak up if they need help. Some of these students have been struggling with being successful due to technology not being sufficiently charged. The charging station have helped these students of mine feel more relaxed in class because now they have an answer to an issue they do not have to ask for. I have created a charging center for my students to visit to serve their needs whenever they need it and these particular students have been able to be more successful because of it.","fullyFundedDate":1703473809059,"projectUrl":"project/surge-to-success/7807311/","projectTitle":"Surge to Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Heine","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7618835_orig.jpg?crop=1123,1123,x0,y18&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1673377799941","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7618835"},{"teacherId":8197134,"projectId":9100829,"letterContent":"On behalf of the Lanier High School Drumline, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the generous donation of marching drumsticks. Our students have been incredibly excited to receive these new sticks, as they are not accustomed to having new ones. These drumsticks have quickly become an essential part of their rehearsal process, and our students are currently using them to practice and prepare for the upcoming Fiesta parades. This donation is a significant boost to our drumline as we gear up for the new marching season.\r\nThe new sticks have not only enhanced our students' musical growth but have also strengthened their camaraderie as they work together towards their goals. With the support of this donation, our drumline is more motivated than ever to succeed. Looking ahead, the next steps for our students will be to continue rehearsing and perfecting their performance for the upcoming marching season, culminating in a community show reveal. The practice nets have gave us more opportunities to practice golf shots that we have been struggling with and given us more chances at getting full swing reps in whenever we can not make it to the Driving Range/Golf Course. The accessories such as the Golf Tees, Towels and Club brushes have allowed my students to take better care of the clubs we currently have as well as seeing the effect of a little cleanliness on their clubs can make such a great impact on how they make impact with the golf ball.\r\n\r\nThe students reaction at first was shocked and did not believe it was for them. They were also excited to the point that they did not allow us to leave the campus right after school as they wanted to set up the big hitting net we got. We quickly got to setting it up and testing out the net as well as the shipping nets that we receives as well. The setting up finished and it ended up turning into a mini practice.\r\n\r\nThe next step is I want for my students who are wanting to improve their golf game is getting them a golf simulator for them to use. This is something I have been thinking of because of the time we are limited to with majority of my student athletes being in after school clubs and/or other sports. Along with the simulator I want to work on getting some new golf clubs for them to use as our current ones are starting to be coming to the end of their run.\r\n\r\nThe equipment we were donated is really appreciated and not taken for granted. It has opened up more opportunities for us to improve our game, expand our knowledge through experiencing what certain shots do/feel like. Overall the donation has allowed me as the Coach to introduce the game of golf to students/kids that may have not gotten the opportunity to play this game or practice as much as we have with the equipment donated.","fullyFundedDate":1728351581531,"projectUrl":"project/shooting-for-birdies-on-a-triple-bogie-b/8843726/","projectTitle":"Shooting for Birdies on a Triple Bogie Budget","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Salazar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9785599"},{"teacherId":1555486,"projectId":8918742,"letterContent":"On behalf of my students, thank you so very much for supporting our mental health with our mental health first aid kit. To meet this need, I provided my students with a soft \"cuddle ball\" they could hold whenever they needed a hug or some emotional support. This small gesture reminded them—and others—that even teenagers benefit from care and nurturing. Additionally, I introduced a reward system using stickers, which proved universally popular because everyone, regardless of age, appreciates recognition and positive reinforcement. Tissues were also readily available in the classroom, offering relief for students with runny noses, especially during colder months or allergy season.\r\n\r\nTo further foster creativity and engagement, I incorporated watercolor paints and graphic novels into my classroom resources. The paints allowed students to express themselves artistically with projects I provided after each chapter of our class novel. Graphic novels, on the other hand, provided an accessible and visually engaging way to explore literature, appealing to both avid readers and those who found traditional novels more challenging. Students also used highlighters to color-code their annotations in the short stories and novels we studied, enhancing their engagement and organizational skills. For my swimmers, I ensured they had bags specifically designed for their equipment, making their training and competitions more convenient. These thoughtful additions supported their emotional, creative, and academic growth while addressing their practical needs.","fullyFundedDate":1730136680206,"projectUrl":"project/clean-noses-radiant-readers-and-sleek/8710436/","projectTitle":"Clean Noses, Radiant Readers, and Sleek Swimmers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Montalvo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9115094_orig.jpg?crop=271,271,x252,y335&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691898295666","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9115094"},{"teacherId":9728844,"projectId":8737635,"letterContent":"I can't thank you enough for the donations that have been given to us.
