We have already used the Ecosystems kit and the Water Conservation kit. The readings included are rigorous and challenging, but they are making their way through it. We have included two other classes so my students could practice their leadership skills by leading the experiments in the kits. We then followed up with a trip to White Clay Creek State Park to explore water based ecosystems in nature. \r\n\r\nIn addition, the students are using the materials in the Science of Reading bundle to enhance their use of word parts and figurative language pieces. The games are great for collaboration and we all play together. Sometimes I don't even think they realize their skills are being reinforced. \r\n\r\nAnd the floor puzzles have aided well in geography. Even with our reading and scence units, we are often talking about a specific state, area, or part of the world and the students are able to relate it by seeing the visual. \r\n\r\nOverall, the manipulatives have enhanced the lessons 10 fold.","fullyFundedDate":1760554770881,"projectUrl":"project/skills-succeeding-with-knowledge-life/9822627/","projectTitle":"SKILLS (Succeeding with Knowledge, Life Lessons, and Support)","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. James","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5995068_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762527860452","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dr-james"},{"teacherId":2963059,"projectId":9762332,"letterContent":"Our ELL classroom has become a calm, welcoming space where students feel safe and eager to learn — all thanks to your generosity! The new Big Joe Milano chairs and soft area rug have created a cozy reading corner where students can practice their English through independent reading and partner discussions. The new lamps and lighting make the classroom feel warm and inviting, helping students focus and feel at ease. The bulletin board decorations and parts-of-speech posters have turned our walls into meaningful learning tools that support vocabulary and grammar practice every day.\r\nWhen my students walked in and saw their newly transformed classroom, their smiles said it all! Many of them commented that it felt \"like home\" or \"like a real reading lounge.\" For students who are still adjusting to learning in a new language and culture, having a bright, comfortable, and beautiful space truly makes a difference. They immediately wanted to sit in the new chairs, explore the reading corner, and talk about how the classroom looked so different and special. We're currently working on building stronger reading and writing skills through short stories and personal narratives. Students are using the cozy reading area for small-group reading circles and using the wall displays to reference parts of speech and sentence structures during writing workshops. The warm, home-like environment encourages them to take risks with language and express themselves confidently in English. Thank you for helping make our classroom a safe, inspiring place where my ELL students can grow not just academically, but emotionally and socially as well.
