The bean bag chair now serves as our calm corner where students can pause, reflect, or reset when emotions feel overwhelming. The used of seats pads are uiltized o promote enaggement for the specifc kids that needed prefrential seating. The SEL workbooks and instructional books guide our weekly community circles, helping students build vocabulary for their feelings, practice empathy, and problem-solve real social situations they experience daily. Fidgets are used during discussions and independent work to help students stay focused and engaged.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were immediately excited — but also curious. Many asked if the space was truly meant for them, and once they realized it was, they eagerly began exploring the books and trying the calming tools. One powerful moment occurred when a student who usually shuts down during frustration asked to use the calm corner, practiced a breathing strategy from our SEL lesson, and used a fidget to conduct more conversation on better ways to approach difficult situations. For middle schoolers, that level of self-awareness is huge.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to utilze these skills in real life everyday scenarios.
