I have started using a lot more hands-on activities to engage students minds. I find they respond much better than standard worksheets. \r\n\r\nThanks to Donors Choose, I could purchase clay and playdough as well as sidewalk chalk for my students to practice their music notes. The laughter and fun was apparent as well as the growth in understanding music notation. My seventh grade students had so much fun making notes with the clay and painting them, they were BEGGING for more clay to make more music notes. \r\n\r\nThese projects were SO much fun and I could not have provided those opportunities to my students without your help. With all of the expenses for life in general, it can be challenging for families to figure out where to find the money to spend on art and music supplies. Donors Choose helps to fill this gap so teachers can get supplies that students need and would otherwise not be able to afford. \r\n\r\nReeds are not expensive if you are buying one. However, students will use many reeds throughout the year due to chips in the wood, germs over time and wear from use. Donors Choose helped to provide boxes of reeds free to my students! A baritone sax reed can cost $7 per reed; imagine needing 10 or more reeds to get through the school year and feeling the weight of that on a family. \r\n\r\nMallets are vital for percussionists to play so being able to have additional mallets for students who cannot afford their own is priceless. Because of this, we do not always have the room in our budget to purchase large instruments for our students. Members of the band often don't have the money for a large instrument either on their own. \r\n\r\nMy high school students were overjoyed to open a brand new euphonium. Several students have been playing it since we got it and it's a wonderful instrument. It plays beautifully!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generosity! I can't believe our project got funded so quickly thanks to the kindness of our donors.
