We reviewed how to read nutrition labels as well and discussed the value of the different types of macromolecules in each food. This is an easy question for students interested in pre-med, pre-vet, dental, nursing, or planning on going into the field of OT or PT. The bigger problem is that many students don't understand the breadth of a field like Biology.\r\n My goal this year is to introduce students to various professionals in fields that require a science background. I plan to convert my smartboard into a large webcam, working in conjunction with a professional-grade microphone. This will allow interactions between my students and our guests. For example, a cousin of mine lives and works in Scotland. Her background is in sustainable energy. To have her speak to students about how human impact directly affects the planet aligns with our Next Generation Science Standards for the Ecology unit.\r\n I hope to bring in scientists, wildlife experts, and other interesting and dynamic speakers to foster an excitement for Biology. In the past, when we wanted to create a group project or represent thinking visually during a unit, it required sourcing materials from across campus, teachers purchasing supplies, and making do with whatever we had on hand. There's nothing inherently wrong with making the most of your resources, but having the resources ready and on hand is very valuable. I'm able to focus on setting up the environment and getting the students ready to go, versus spending all of my prep running around campus gathering items, or hoping there are posterboards at the Dollar Store, or extra markers at Target, etc. It's such a relief to have adequate quality supplies. And the kids LOVE giant post its! It's like magic to them. We create mind maps, mind \"dumps,\" writing edits, and brainstorm sessions on the fly, where everyone's idea or ideas are represented and included. \r\n\r\nWe've used the materials four times now, in small groups, projects, and presentations. On the small post it notes, students are accountable for their own thinking. On the larger post its, students can visibly share ideas, add ideas to their notebooks, and celebrate each other as they share ideas. Students can also share across class periods as the work is posted on the wall for everyone to review. This helps some students set themselves up with ideas for writing and analysis. \r\n\r\nThank you, again, for your generosity. Our students are already benefiting from the ability to connect with one another, and the content, using these tools.","fullyFundedDate":1753130143245,"projectUrl":"project/collaboration-is-the-key-fostering-cri/9204588/","projectTitle":"Collaboration is the key! Students now have access to a work of literature that sparks discussion, inquiry, and critical thinking. \r\n\r\nAs a foundational text for our school, \"Animal Farm\" introduces our youngest students (9th grade) to the ways propaganda can influence society and shape our individual thinking. Students will read and analyze Orwell's allegory, learning to identify the tools of persuasion and those that can be manipulated in everyday life. \r\n\r\nStudents will learn to recognize bias, deconstruct arguments, and question sources. All of which are incredibly important skills in today's world, where information travels very fast and students of all ages have access to an incredible amount of information and misinformation. By learning how to identify and deconstruct propaganda, our students can become more thoughtful and informed citizens, and make healthier choices about the media they consume. \r\n\r\nAccess to these texts, thanks to your support, means that teachers can build a classroom culture where every voice can engage with complex ideas, ask tough questions, and develop critical thinking skills together.\r\n\r\nOur entire English department is thrilled and deeply grateful for your contribution. I noticed the difference right away when students were able to flip back through past lessons during a review activity—something that used to be much more challenging.\r\nWhen the binders first arrived, students were genuinely excited. Many shared that having their own binder felt like a real step toward staying organized, and a few even decorated theirs to make them personal. The pride they showed in setting them up has already translated into stronger study habits, and they're beginning to see how much smoother learning can be when everything is kept in one place.\r\nLooking ahead, we'll continue using the binders as a tool for building long-term skills.
