A special shout out to the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Foundation who funded a large portion of this Donor's Choose project. \r\n\r\nStudent engagement was heightened as soon as they saw the breakout boxes with the new locks. Having new locks to replace broken ones as well as adding a variety of locks were an immediate hit. As a result students were motivated to work through complicated and difficult work. \r\n\r\nMost importantly, the new breakout box materials made the primary goal of having students work in smaller groups a reality. Smaller groups increase the number of challenging problems each student can work on. We were able to set up breakout boxes for both our gifted math students as well as our gifted literacy students, and both groups wanted to do it again. \r\n\r\nAn added benefit to getting the new breakout box materials was the amount of time it took for the gifted teachers to set up the breakout boxes. With the old, broken locks it took hours to fiddle with them to get them to open and close properly. The new ones were in mint condition and in some cases better quality. With prep time cut down, the boxes are more likely to be used more in the future. \r\n\r\nThank you again for funding our Donors Choose.
