The day the boxes arrived was filled with \"oohs\" and \"aahs\" as we unpacked the variety of new tools. The students were incredibly excited to see the NeeDoh stress balls, the intricate puzzle toys, and the spinning fidgets. There was an immediate sense of curiosity as they explored the different textures and movements, from the squishy resistance of the balls to the quiet clicking of the puzzles. Seeing their excitement was a wonderful reminder of how much it means to them to have high-quality, tactile resources that make our classroom feel like a supportive place to learn.\r\n\r\nThese resources have quickly become a vital part of our daily rhythm. Every day at the start of the hour, the students line up to choose the tool that fits their needs for the day. While they love using the marbles they can move around during quiet work, these tools are most impactful during assessments. Having a NeeDoh ball to squeeze or a quiet spinner in hand helps channel their restless energy into focus. It has been amazing to see how a simple puzzle toy can help a student settle down and dive straight into their test with a sense of calm and confidence.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we are focusing on the \"science of focus.\" Our next step is a series of lessons on self-regulation, helping students identify which specific sensation—whether it's the tactile pull of the marble slides or the rhythmic motion of a spinner—best helps their brain stay on task. We are practicing how and when to use these as \"tools, not toys,\" so they remain a support rather than a distraction. Students have appreciated having several different snack options when they haven't been able to grab breakfast before coming to class or are just hungry mid-morning and need something to tide them over before the second lunch hour. Students are also thankful for a quick snack before their last class or even just after when they're on their way to a practice and need some additional fuel. \r\nStudents have also enjoyed engaging with the new kinds of fidgets before and during class time. Several of the different fidgets are kinds that we have not previously had in my room, and I heard many comments like, \"cool\", \"hey, did you see this?\", or \"try this one out\" as they explored the new options they had. The donation has allowed me to have enough fidgets to put them in multiple places throughout the room for easier access. \r\nLastly, one of the more popular items that was funded through this project were the floor cushions. I wanted a different option for students, and while I wasn't sure if high school students would use them, they have been a popular choice during open work time.
