Having new learning tools engages me more as an assistant teacher. I love being able to support my teachers and their Early readiness program. These tools were needed in our program and help support literacy, center time, and instruction. \r\n\r\nThe flexible seating of the wooden floor desks and cushions has enhanced our learning environment by increasing student engagement, improving focus, and encouraging collaboration. Our students have developmental delays and so giving them flexible seating options where they can be grounded and not have to sit at a traditional table or desk is helpful for early childhood students who may be full of wiggles. \r\n\r\nThe flannel board props and magnetic flannel board that I can put down at the preschoolers level has significantly enhanced early literacy in our students by making story retelling interactive, visual, and tactile. These materials aid in sequencing events, improving comprehension, and boosting vocabulary for young children, especially visual and kinesthetic learners. \r\n\r\nOur students love dramatic play. The mop, broom, and dusting set added to our imaginative home environment. Dramatic play in early childhood fosters social, emotional, cognitive and physical skills. Children are practicing taking turns by acting out real scenarios. This type of play helps them with language development growth and problem solving. \r\n\r\nThe play dough helps the children with fine motor skills that helps strengthen hand muscles, and improving dexterity in our pre-k program. The play dough helps enhance there pincer grasp, hand eye coordination, and finger isolation through squeezing, rolling, pinching, and cutting, which will help in future tasks like writing and using scissors. \r\n\r\nYour contribution to my program have had a powerful impact and I suspect will for years to come. All of the children in this program have developmental delays or other disabilities and these materials help to keep them engaged through a multi-modality, sensory approach. \r\n\r\nThe preschoolers have been immersed in learning through tactile, hands on experience with the large geometric shapes, magnetic building sticks, and foam modeling beads. These materials help them to strengthen their fine motor skills. This type of tactile play involves hands-on activities that engage the senses, such as squeezing and manipulating the foam beads and scooping and molding the kinetic sand. My little creative artists also love the Waxy Kwix Stix Tempera crayons. They give just the right amount of feedback when coloring and the colors are super vibrant. These activities build hand coordination, finger control, and grip strength essential for tasks like writing and buttoning.\r\n\r\nThe students have also enjoying learning about space with the recent Artimis 2 lunar launch and landing this year. The magnetic rocket and robot building sets have helped bring this learning to their own imaginative level. I decorated our dramatic play area into a space capsule where they used the light up busy boards to pretend they were commanding a space station. By acting out real-world roles like flying to the moon, children learn to negotiate, empathize, develop language skills, manage emotions, and foster creativity. These added materials helped to transform abstract ideas into more concrete understanding, which in turn helped them build foundational skills for future learning. \r\n\r\nYour contributions to my program have had a powerful impact and I suspect will for years to come. Your grant has made a meaningful and lasting impact on our young patrons, and we are truly thankful for your commitment to enriching their learning experiences.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, we have been able to introduce transitional seating that creates a more welcoming, flexible, and comfortable environment for children. This has helped foster a space where kids feel relaxed, engaged, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nYour funding also allowed us to expand our collection of Pre-K and early reader materials, giving children access to books and resources that support literacy development at crucial early stages. These new additions are already inspiring curiosity, confidence, and a love of reading among our youngest learners. They love these books! \r\n\r\nIn addition, the instruments and interactive story and song activities you helped provide have brought new energy and creativity into our programs. Children ages 3–11 are now able to explore music, movement, and storytelling in ways that support different learning styles and developmental levels. During a recent lesson, students worked in small groups at the easels to solve math problems and explain their thinking. The vertical boards encouraged students to collaborate, share strategies, and revise their ideas as they worked. One memorable moment was watching a group of students discuss different ways to solve a problem while referring to the prompts and examples posted with magnets on their board. The easels helped turn our classroom into an active learning space where students could move, talk, and think together.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the easels and magnets, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to get up and start writing on the boards, and many students commented on how fun it was to work standing up and sharing ideas with classmates. Using magnets to attach reference materials and prompts helped students stay focused and supported as they worked, giving them helpful reminders they could easily see while solving problems or discussing their thinking.\r\n\r\nAs we continue using these resources, students will apply them during reading, writing, and math lessons. The magnets allow me to quickly add vocabulary cards, sentence starters, problem-solving prompts, and examples that guide students as they collaborate at the easels. Our next steps include using the boards to plan summaries, organize ideas for writing, and explain strategies during math discussions.
