These students have gone far beyond classroom expectations—giving over 300 hours of service each, with some reaching over 6,000 hours—to uplift our school, neighborhoods, and city. Their service includes mentoring, volunteering, advocacy, and showing up for others when it mattered most. When they received their stoles, the emotion was real—smiles, tears, and a sense of pride that they were seen. These students represent the very best of our PBIS framework, AIRR: Way of the Saints—Acceptance, Integrity, Respect, and Responsibility—and your support made their recognition possible.\r\n\r\nAlthough this recognition came through the SAHS Library, it's about more than books. As a Teacher Librarian, I believe literacy is action. In our library, students don't just read about kindness, justice, and community—they live it. Through literature, they learn the why; through service, they become the how. The library becomes the bridge between stories and lived experience, where students grow not just as readers, but as human beings. Your donation didn't just provide a stole—it affirmed the power of stories, of stewardship, and of students who are becoming the kind of people our world needs. Thank you for helping us honor them.","fullyFundedDate":1746853817685,"projectUrl":"project/honor-63-seniors-who-went-above-and-beyo/9103785/","projectTitle":"Honor 63 Seniors Who Went Above and Beyond in Service","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Phan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1645294_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738942961710","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1645294"},{"teacherId":303554,"projectId":9275254,"letterContent":"Thank you for your incredible support for my students. I am a teacher of students with severe disabilities, and I travel from home to home to work with each student individually, throughout my school day.\r\n\r\nWith that being said, my students have varied and unique abilities that require specific items designed to help each student reach their highest potential. From the wonderful manipulatives, to the Mystery box - a student is assisted in placing their hand inside of a box to retrieve an item and then matches that item to the picture board - to the sensory table toppers, my students enjoy a time of fun and learning.\r\n\r\nWithout your support, I would be digging deeper into my own pockets to provide such enrichment, and my pockets are only so deep! One of the favorites of my students is the spinning stacker. The rings slowly progress from large to small as a typical childhood toy, however they have different edge textures and spin on the way down the center pole. The smiles garnered are incredible. \r\n\r\nThank you once again for your generosity, thoughtfulness, and awareness that all children do best when surrounded by curriculum and supports that challenge and delight them.","fullyFundedDate":1746636565907,"projectUrl":"project/art-is-in-my-heart/9275254/","projectTitle":"Art Is In My Heart","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zwickl","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp303554_orig.jpg?crop=370,370,x107,y57&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1649959424091","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-zwickl"},{"teacherId":303554,"projectId":9038449,"letterContent":"First, I want to express my intense gratitude for your generosity. My students have benefited from your support, and are able to access their curriculum in a much more meaningful way. The manipulatives offer my students the opportunity to feel and interact with different textures, smells, sounds, shapes, etc. Due to my students' severe disabilities, it is imperative that they have the opportunity to interact with a multitude of objects that relate to their curriculum, as books and paper don't work well for them.\r\n\r\nSecondly, seeing a smile creep across a students face, and knowing that the smile is due to your thoughtfulness, makes my heart full. Also knowing that you value and recognize that all students deserve enrichment, is extremely rewarding.\r\n\r\nFinally, since I work with my students one-on-one, and having my \"Mary Poppins\" bag with me, full of wonderful items such as: manipulatives, shakers, playdough, light tables, art supplies, individual bags for their personal supplies, books, and so much more, I am able to work with my students with ease and expose them to the world of sight, sound, and touch. The new counseling materials—such as art supplies, sensory tools, and journals—have transformed our sessions into safe, welcoming spaces where students feel more willing to open up.\r\n\r\nOne student who was hesitant to speak during our first meetings began drawing quietly with the new markers while we talked. Over time, the artwork became a way for him to share his feelings and experiences. This wouldn't have been possible without the resources you helped provide.\r\n\r\nThese supplies are not just \"things\" in the room—they are bridges to trust, self-expression, and emotional growth. These texts have done more than provide reading material; they have opened doors.\r\n\r\nThe new books have introduced real-world skills and knowledge, helping students connect their classroom experience to future careers. For example, in our Legal Academy, students are now learning about the LSAT early on. This is something our CTE teacher always wanted to incorporate but never had the resources to do. These books are helping students see the steps they need to take now to be prepared for law school in the future.\r\n\r\nIn our Medical Assistant program, students are reading about the journey to becoming a nurse or doctor, how to build a strong resume, and how to navigate the healthcare field. These lessons have turned into powerful classroom discussions around goal setting, perseverance, and professionalism.\r\n\r\nReading in our classrooms often looks like collaboration. Students are highlighting, asking questions, and reflecting on how the content applies to their lives. With the Career Guide for Teens, I have been able to create resume templates, job readiness checklists, and work permit walkthroughs. Students appreciate how accessible and relevant the information is.\r\n\r\nWe have seen students light up, especially those who were unsure if college or a career in law or medicine was possible for them. These books gave them clarity, guidance, and inspiration. One student even said, \"I didn't know people like me could do this.\"\r\n\r\nYour donations have empowered our students to explore their futures and given us the tools to support them every step of the way. Laughs could be heard as students played with the slapping hands. The physicality of movement, community and connection allowed students to build the motivation they needed to focus on their studies in class.\r\n\r\n I personally wanted to thank you for donating because before this time I had spent my own funds on all the things for students related to re-wire time. Over the course of 3 years, I had spent at least $1,000 and more of my own money to provide all the fun things for students. And the support of this project brought me relief. With your support, I was able to transform our Financial Aid Workshop into a welcoming and comfortable space where students could focus on one of the most important steps in their college journey. Applying for financial aid. The process can be overwhelming, but with the cozy setup we created using the donated items, students felt more at ease and supported.\r\n\r\nAs soon as they walked in, their faces lit up at the sight of warm drinks, snacks, and a thoughtfully arranged workspace. Many of them mentioned how much they appreciated having a place that felt inviting rather than intimidating. The small details, like having a comfortable environment to work in, made a huge difference in their confidence and motivation. It allowed them to ask questions, work through their applications without pressure, and truly engage in the process.\r\n\r\nThanks to your kindness, we not only helped students complete their applications but also reassured them that they are supported in their college journey. The next steps for many of them include following up on their FAFSA or CA Dream Act submissions, applying for scholarships, and finalizing their college applications.
