They were able to watch the pipa grow into caterpillars and then butterflies. They were so engaged and excited to see what happens each day. They were naming the little guys from day one which was so cute to see. My students really excited to move the caterpillars into their cups to watch them then turn into a chrysalis. Once they were out of the chrysalis and were actual butterflies the chatter in my classroom was electric. They were wanting to watch them closely and see how they ate. Then came release day. Lots of tears were shed but it was awesome to see my students so invested in the lives of another creature. It taught them empathy and compassion.
