Inspired by their collective obsession with the Magic Tree House series, the students dove headfirst into our new supplies to document their own \"time-traveling\" expeditions. Instead of seeing blank pages as a daunting task, they saw them as portals. Jack and Annie would be proud; our budding authors spent hours meticulously sketching maps of ancient civilizations and prehistoric jungles, using the new heavy-weight cardstock to create durable covers that look like authentic field guides found in Morgan le Fay's library.\r\nThe new materials didn't just provide the means to write; they provided the professional polish that allowed the students to truly see themselves as creators. We saw a massive spike in descriptive writing as they used the vibrant new ink colors to \"paint\" scenes of Victorian London or the moon's surface. By the time they reached the final \"Publishing Phase,\" the classroom felt like a high-end editorial office. Seeing them proudly shelf their hand-bound, illustrated adventures next to Mary Pope Osborne's classics has been the highlight of the term. They aren't just playing pretend anymore—they are published authors of their own expansive multiverses.","fullyFundedDate":1775015135736,"projectUrl":"project/back-to-basics-equipping-every-student/10115736/","projectTitle":"Back to Basics: Equipping Every Student to Excel","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10440458"},{"teacherId":496495,"projectId":10080164,"letterContent":"My students have done three clay projects. We have more and more students each year, and our budget is always a challenge. The students have been busy this year learning about art elements like colors and shapes and how they can use these elements to create strong art. They have found inspiration in art history, studying artists like Kandinsky and O'Keeffe, and they have made connections with the art and culture of many countries around the world. Because our student population represents 19 countries, it is especially meaningful for our immigrant families to be able to share their own cultures through art. Hispanic Heritage Month was a huge success, and we used many supplies like the construction paper to build ofrendas, to design folk art suns, and to draw portraits of Frida Kahlo. Without help from generous people like you, we would not be able to keep this program going. Thank you so much for your continued support of the arts in schools.","fullyFundedDate":1757683113994,"projectUrl":"project/cultivating-creativity/9622357/","projectTitle":"Cultivating Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ammons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp496495_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689023725834","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bethammons"},{"teacherId":9161269,"projectId":9458742,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations! These tools and materials have made an incredible difference for my kindergarteners. The focus of this project was to provide more resources for social-emotional learning in our classroom, and they have truly helped my students better understand and regulate their emotions.\r\n\r\nWhen I revealed the new tools, the students were so excited to explore them. I first explained how to use each tool, and then everyone had a chance to try them out. Afterwards, we added them to our calming corner, where they continue to use them daily to help manage their feelings in healthy ways.\r\n\r\nI believe that learning to recognize and regulate emotions is just as important as academics in kindergarten. Many of my students start the year unsure of what to do when they experience big feelings. Through these new tools and lessons, they are learning that it's okay to have emotions, and more importantly, what to do next. Craft supplies in the art room make it possible for me to look at work with students and say, \"What if?\" What if we added buttons? What if it was shiny? How could we add more details? Having a collection of materials for students ensures projects are as unique and diverse as the students in my classroom. Recently, the third and fourth grade students used craft materials and recycled materials to make cameras. They added memories and dreams as snapshots coming from the camera. They loved digging through the craft materials and finding creative ways to use the provided materials.
