Through this project, the children learned the importance of kindness, compassion, and giving back to their community. They discovered that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone else's life.\r\n\r\nAs the students worked together to prepare the care packages, they practiced teamwork, sharing, and cooperation. They began to understand that their efforts could bring happiness and comfort to the senior citizens receiving the packages. Their hand-written notes were so special and fun to do. This hands-on experience also helped build empathy as the children thought about others and how they could show care and appreciation for members of their community.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project taught our kindergarteners that they are never too young to make a positive impact. They experienced the joy of giving rather than receiving and learned that thoughtful gestures can help others feel remembered, valued, and loved. We are proud of our students for demonstrating such big hearts and for learning an important lesson in kindness, generosity, and community service.","fullyFundedDate":1776970134830,"projectUrl":"project/we-love-our-senior-citizens/10196376/","projectTitle":"We Love Our Senior Citizens!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Butterfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4265085_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y386&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697606682326","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4265085"},{"teacherId":9709560,"projectId":10107780,"letterContent":"The Kindness Corner has made a meaningful difference in my SLC classroom by providing students with a welcoming space to regulate emotions, meet sensory needs, and practice calming strategies. They completed craft projects with them, made them small gifts like keychains and bracelets and played with them during recess. All in an effort to share their time and spread kindness. They also loved doing projects for the school staff. For example, during nurse appreciation week they made cards for our school nurses using the supplies from this project. \r\n\r\nWe also did a kindness campaign where posters were made throughout the school. They have already made a difference and we have only begun. Students in our building were sorted into groups with different grade levels and backgrounds. In these pictures you see them collaboratively working on a project that spread kindness throughout our school. Through this lesson, children learned to set goals and work together to accomplish them, show their support for one another, and persevere. These important concepts continued beyond that learning experience. For instance, my first grade class asked if they could meet with their groups to set additional goals all on their own! What a great demonstration of them taking the lead and ownership of their learning. At recess, we also observed students asking others to join them. This experience has brought them closer and has assisted in making others feel a part of our school family. They are developing skills that they will utilize throughout their lives.
