Because of the new cooking tools, utensils, and protective clothing, my students are now able to safely and confidently engage in hands-on culinary projects. One especially meaningful moment was when our class worked together to make lunch for the entire school, mac and cheese with ham. Students took on real responsibilities such as measuring, stirring, timing, and serving, and they were incredibly proud to contribute something meaningful to their school community. This experience went far beyond cooking; it built teamwork, independence, and a strong sense of accomplishment.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. Many of them have never had access to proper pots, pans, or aprons before, and having these resources made them feel trusted and capable. The aprons and smocks helped reduce anxiety around spills and mistakes, allowing students to focus on learning rather than worrying about accidents. The tools transformed our classroom into a safe, supportive space where students felt empowered to try new skills.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue building on these skills by following multi-step recipes, practicing kitchen safety routines, and learning how to plan simple, nutritious meals. These lessons are essential life skills that will support them beyond high school, helping them gain confidence and independence. Your generosity has made a lasting impact, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunities you have created for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1764740241561,"projectUrl":"project/mix-measure-master-life-skills-in-act/9637327/","projectTitle":"Mix, Measure, Master: Life Skills in Action!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Reid","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10212773"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_68825","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":65,"numTeachers":16,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":70,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"4.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":38.9,"schoolId":68825,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Springfield Public Day High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Springfield Public Day High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/springfield-public-school-district/safe-springfield-academy-high-school/68825"}
