We start the year off by going through a letter each day. I have the kids generate words that start with the letter and I draw pictures of the words. Once we are done I sing about going to the zoo and we pulled up our Zoo Alive animal to interact with on the screen. After we are done with that the students rotate through small groups at the teacher tables using the journal from the zoo alive curriculum to trace their letter and then scan the qr code on our kindle to interactive with the animal as well as be able to trace the letter again. The ability to use the journals and be able to get on the tablets are highly motivating to the students. I appreciate your donation as the books are consumable each year and are expensive to replace for 20 students.","fullyFundedDate":1758841468295,"projectUrl":"project/zoo-alive-handwriting/9390375/","projectTitle":"Zoo Alive Handwriting","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Welty","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6291802"},{"teacherId":5479164,"projectId":3370511,"letterContent":"When our new classroom rug arrived, the students' reactions were priceless—pure excitement and joy. They immediately gravitated toward the rug, eager to sit, stretch out, and claim their favorite spots. For many of my students, having a colorful, comfortable space to gather has made a big difference in how they engage with learning. We now start our mornings together on the rug for circle time, where we review the day's goals, share stories, and build a strong sense of community. It's also become our go-to space for read-alouds, group discussions, and even quiet reflection time. The rug has turned a simple part of our classroom into a welcoming hub for connection and collaboration.\r\n\r\nOne project that truly came to life with the addition of the rug was our recent storytelling unit. Students took turns sitting in the \"author's spot\" on the rug, proudly reading their own short stories to the class. Having a dedicated, comfortable space helped even my more hesitant students feel confident sharing their voices. The rug made it easy for the class to sit together, listen attentively, and celebrate each other's creativity. It's amazing how something as simple as a rug has created opportunities for richer conversations, deeper focus, and stronger classroom bonds. As we move into our next project—exploring cultures around the world—our rug will continue to be the heart of our learning space, bringing students together for discovery, dialogue, and joy. My students girls and boys were also excited to be able to go to the housekeeping center to dress, feed and pretend to be doctors with the new baby dolls.
