My kids were super proud of their projects and work. You helped to add a special touch of magic to it all. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card helped me get a lot of digital ideas for our classroom units this year. We were fond of making the lanterns for our Ancient Asian Civilization unit using your special papers. We used your donations to make Greek gods and goddesses in Pokémon-themed cards, and we enjoyed a Greek food sampling for our Ancient Greek Civilization unit, too. Plus, my students loved sharing their writing portfolios with their parents, thanks to the 3-ring binders you provided. This is very short-sighted on their part. It's important to note that in order to develop a love of reading, kids need to actually read real, entire books. Unfortunately, many students don't read on their own at home, so I bring novel reading to them. I choose two or three chapter books that we'll dig deep into together, but I need to buy them for each child in my class so they can highlight and annotate inside. Your donation helped take the financial sting out of my commitment to teaching reading through core literature.\r\n\r\nPlease take a moment to look at the attached photo of the students highlighting blue and green passages in their copies of Esperanza Rising. The blue highlighter is used to identify examples of figurative language and the green highlighter is used to identify examples of character traits. We start the reading of the book and highlighting together, but by one-third of the way through the book, the students take over and start highlighting on their own as they find examples of figurative language (blue), character traits (green), theme (yellow), vocabulary (pink), and historical reference (orange).. It's a joy to witness them take ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your continued support of the learning in my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1770591955660,"projectUrl":"project/building-the-love-of-reading-through-cor/10089401/","projectTitle":"Building the Love of Reading Through Core Literature Study","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. O'Neill Lin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1174181_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y342&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770570946145","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-oneill-lin"},{"teacherId":1175009,"projectId":10005366,"letterContent":"The rich literature my class received has had a huge impact on my students' development and growth. Counting on Katherine is an exemplary non fiction book which has a powerful message of using your gift to achieve your dreams and not allowing discrimination of gender or race stop you. My kindergarten students were inspired by this book and often make connections to Katherine Johnson's mathematics prowess. I read this book during Women's History Month but will also share during Black History Month in the future. \r\nThe books on Equity and Activism are so perfect for today's climate. Both books are written so that my young students can understand what it means to be Change agents and how we all have individual needs at different times in our lives. \r\nLastly, the pencil sharpener is a game changer! It is cordless when charged and sharpens beautifully. The purple robot sharpener is also very pleasing to the eye and is a great addition to our bright and cheery classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1769372444614,"projectUrl":"project/great-literature-sparks-great-minds/10005366/","projectTitle":"Great Literature Sparks Great Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lilly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1175009_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1486872566159","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-lilly"},{"teacherId":381734,"projectId":10064080,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the tricycle for my Kindergarten students. These materials have opened creativity in my class in a way that I have never seen before. All the materials have encouraged my students to unlock their creativity and think outside of the normal box. When I unboxed the scarves for my TK students they lost their minds and instantly wanted to dive into creative play with them. They helped the students be able to express their emotions and create a visual way to show their emotions. We are using the scarves and carpet dots in my TK/K classes to emphasize our personal space boundaries and making sure everyone has their own space in our theater classroom. When I unboxed the legos, my 3rd-5th grade students's eyes lit up! They were so excited to recieve something that they play with at home to light up their learning in my class. We are using the legos to create sets for the plays they are dreaming up. It's a way to make theater a bit more tactile for the students and embrace their creativity. \r\nThe addition of the glue sticks, crayons and paper is to help with their designs for sets and technical theater elements.
