The calculators are a tool to help them complete work faster and to help them understand how to use it so they can be adequately prepared for future years when they are needed for more advanced computations and graphing. My main goal this year was to expose them to calculators so they can understand how to use them and help combat any confusion.\r\n\r\nCalculators do not do the work for them as they still have to know how to use it and know what type of problem they are completing. I received pencils, erasers and notebooks, motivational stampers, dry erase sleeves and pouches.\r\nMy students were also thrilled to see the new supplies and even more thrilled to be able to begin using them. They really appreciate the new dry erase sleeves. The ones I've received from Donorschoose erase easily and don't stain or streak like the ones that were replace by the new ones. I asked my students how they liked the new ones. They showed me how easily they can erase/ wipe off the dry erase sleeves and are so thankful for these items. They love using the dry erase sleeves and love using these now even more so because it's so easy to keep them clean.\r\n\r\nWe use the pencils and erasers on a near-daily basis, too. Most days, the students have a bell-ringer task, and they use the notebooks, pencils and erasers for this. We have plenty of pencils now and I don't have to worry about running out of them. They know that when the time comes for a new notebook, one will be ready for them.\r\n\r\nThe pouches are helping to keep phonics materials and collaboration materials organized and are a great help. Students walk in all the time and comment on the lighting in the room and how its nice to walk in and it be bright enough to work but not the usual fluorescent lighting as other rooms. I have students I taught last year that come by my room to say hi and comment on how nice the room look's now that I have been able to get all the donations I needed to make it happen.\r\n\r\nA calming environment definitely helps with making learning possible but so do supplies. The cloths have been great to use for when students use individual dry erase boards. they are so much better than the erasers since they are washable so if they start to get too much marker residue on them i can take them home and wash them so they work like new again. Its also nice because they wont break like the mini erasers do. I use them all the time!\r\n\r\nThe pink erasers have been a life saver!
