Students are also learning valuable lessons about kindness, perseverance, friendship, and responsibility through engaging and high-interest texts. These books help build reading confidence, fluency, and a stronger love for reading.\r\n Reading in our school is interactive and student-centered. Students participate in read-alouds, independent reading, partner reading, and group discussions. Our library and book vending machine make reading exciting by giving students opportunities to choose books that match their interests.\r\n Most of the students were very excited when they first saw the new books in the vending machine. They immediately began asking how many points they needed to earn books, candy, and other rewards. The incentives have created excitement around reading and positive behavior while motivating students to work toward personal goals.\r\n Several students who were once reluctant readers are now eager to participate so they can earn books of their own. Some students especially enjoy books that reflect their interests and experiences, while others enjoy recommending books to classmates and discussing their favorite stories. Seeing students become more confident and enthusiastic readers has been one of the most rewarding parts of this experience.\r\n We plan to continue adding new books and resources to our book vending machine so students remain motivated and excited about reading throughout the school year.","fullyFundedDate":1775134897147,"projectUrl":"project/from-effort-to-ownership-books-students/10031218/","projectTitle":"From Effort to Ownership: Books Students Get to Keep","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5273073_orig.jpg?crop=897,897,x0,y68&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724114470292","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/z-williams"},{"teacherId":5273073,"projectId":9671472,"letterContent":"One memorable moment happened when the students first saw the PBIS store stocked with the new treats. Our students are more mindful of their behavior because they know their efforts are recognized and rewarded.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue growing the PBIS store by finding additional resources and incentives for students. By adding new items over time, we can keep the program fresh and motivating.
