To me, that means we've created exactly the kind of safe, supportive environment every middle school student deserves.\r\n\r\nKnowing my students have a place where they can get what they need and knowing they understand that not only their teacher cares about them, but complete strangers do as well is one of the most rewarding parts of being a middle school teacher.\r\n\r\nYour donation arrived at the perfect time. As we entered the final month of school, our care cabinet was running low. We had completely run out of lip balm and our individual lotions, leaving only a large bottle of lotion on the counter.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened just after your donation arrived. Two seventh-grade boys came into my classroom during lunch, excited that we had chapstick again. They thanked me for the restock because the spring sun and wind had left their lips dry and cracked, and the chapstick was exactly what they needed. It was such a simple item, but it made a big difference to them.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us meet our students' basic needs with dignity and compassion. Our students had spent countless hours designing beautiful page layouts, but working on small laptop screens made it difficult to view an entire page at once or catch small details. With the new monitor, students could easily see each page as a whole, making it much easier to spot formatting issues, correct mistakes, and make final edits.\r\n\r\nThis being my first year as the yearbook director has taught me many new skills and ways to help students have a positive experience with creating our next year yearbook. They decorated a crock inspired by the main character in their novel. Each project was unique and reflected the student's interpretation of the character's personality and growth throughout the story. More importantly, the activity demonstrated that students could effectively cite textual evidence to support their ideas and conclusions.\r\n\r\nAs a class, we also used a Teachers Pay Teachers resource while reading \"Freak the Mighty\". After finishing the novel, students worked collaboratively in small groups to reflect on the story, discuss its themes, and share their personal perspectives. Their conversations were enthusiastic, thoughtful, profound, and insightful. Students respectfully challenged one another's thinking, supported their opinions with evidence from the text, and made meaningful connections to their own lives. It was, without a doubt, the most engaging and rewarding novel wrap-up I have experienced in my twenty years of teaching.\r\n\r\nThank you for putting these incredible learning opportunities into my students' hands.
