Your contributions have made such a positive impact to our classroom learning. When we first opened the boxes together, they were so excited that they started cheering and clapping.\r\n\r\nTo start, Riverside Elementary is a Title 1 school. Unfortunately, students in this region have a low socio-economic status which may affect whether or not students can afford snacks to hold their appetites until lunch. They are used to early lunch when they were in the primary grades like K-1. For 2nd grade, they experience a later lunch and often complain about their hunger. They frequently respond like \"When is lunch?\" or \"I'm hungry. Do you have any snacks?\" By focusing on their hunger, it is difficult to focus on learning. Because of your giving of snacks, I am able to distribute snacks to the children. Now, they are focusing on learning and not hunger.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, I use the snacks as an incentive for learning. For example if they complete their iready minutes and pass the daily lesson, they choose a snack! That way, they feel rewarded for their work AND feel satisfied until lunch time. Also, Student of the Week gets to sit in the donated gamer chair as a reward. Furthermore, the other supplies are used for projects, especially STEAM.\r\nThanks again for your care and concern for the students.","fullyFundedDate":1764102795676,"projectUrl":"project/having-a-blast-in-2nd-grade/9672996/","projectTitle":"Having a Blast in 2nd Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Echezabal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9760192"},{"teacherId":9647223,"projectId":8624837,"letterContent":"Thank you for everything! I am beyond thankful for everything you have blessed my students with your generous gifts! I think the most reaction I got was when the boxes started to arrive and they saw the food. Remember the population is where some of these students are not being fed enough. So I would use the food as a reward when they got an A on their science or math test or when they completed their weekly 60 math I-Ready minutes. The food helped motivate the students and for that I cannot say thank you enough. It really helped. \r\n\r\nI also used the laminating paper to track their I-Ready lessons of the lessons they passed with an 80% passing rate and would put their name on the WhiteBoard. Kids love to be recognized and thanks to the laminating paper I was able to do that. As well as create I-Ready chain necklaces that would help motivate them to complete I-Ready. Let's just say that students need all the motivation and help they can get when it comes to completing their i-Ready minutes. The organization also helped as well. The kids loved playing the coding game and they had never played it before but it was something to help motivate learning how to code especially using Play Doh to create a gaming console that went with the game. \r\n\r\nI was also able to use the Sharpies to create color anchor charts that helped my ESOL students being able to recognize English words in learning math and science. Also thank you for the pencils because one thing teachers go through very fast is pencils. You can never have enough! The kids were excited with all the markers and highlighters. I used them every day and it was someone's class job to make sure they were collected. Again some families might not be able to purchase school supplies so having the abundance of supplies in my classroom supply closet made students feel like they had a classroom supply that they could borrow. Maybe keep such as the pencils but the markers and other supplies were returned. That's gratitude in words I cannot express. I really hope you feel the joy and gratitude from my students when you read the Thank-You cards. Thank you so much for everything!!! I am not working on a project until summer for next year but I do hope you'll be able to donate to one of my future projects. You are amazing and incredible and thank you for your blessing and generosity! God Bless You & Many Prayers.","fullyFundedDate":1723674880451,"projectUrl":"project/make-math-and-science-possible-for-futur/8624837/","projectTitle":"Make Math and Science Possible for Future Thinkers and Dreamers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bender","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9647223_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723391071200","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9647223"},{"teacherId":9647223,"projectId":8740625,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my project! I have to say the excitement beyond an i-Pad in the classroom is unreal and the most amazing joyful experience as an educator. I hope that you feel that same joy when you read the Thank-You letters from my students. They were so happy as soon as the i-Pad arrived that they wanted to use it immediately. They were so excited. I think it brought them more joy in the fact that it was the same donor as other projects of mine. They knew the name Andy and I've never seen bigger smiles except for when my classroom store opens which only 3-4 times a year. So that says a lot! \r\n\r\nSo I used the i-Pad for several things. One was keeping track of the students doing homework so I could reward the students who completed their homework. I also used the i-Pad as a reward for \"brain breaks\" and downloaded coloring apps or specific gaming apps so it was a reward to get a break from school work and it helped motivate students a lot. Then I also used it for the Merge Cube which is an immersive science hands-on learning experience. I cannot wait to continue to use it next year and to see the excitement from students who use it next year and for years to come. Most students don't have a phone, or computer or i-Pad at home so it can be hard to do the things they need to do for homework without one. We have computers in the classroom but they always flip the screens so it looks like a tablet on a stand because they hide the keyboard underneath the computer that it looks like an i-Pad. I didn't need to remind them often because they just wanted to do everything possible to use the i-Pad.\r\n\r\nI did buy a case and an apple pencil on my own for the coloring apps and so far the i-Pad has survived. No breaks or anything so the case is a good one. They treat it gently and always make sure it's plugged in. Many love doing their math \"homework\" on the computer by playing Boddle (to study for math) and Quizlet (to study for science) and then like I said most are excited about being able to color or to play games as a reward for already working hard in the classroom! Thank you so much your generous gift! I am beyond grateful and honestly I am inspired to know that I have someone willing to give a little extra something special to my students such as an i-Pad. Something that they can use to grow in their learning and watching all the smiles has been a blessing. Thank you for everything! God Bless You & Many Prayers.","fullyFundedDate":1734545959545,"projectUrl":"project/my-students-are-dreamers-and-future-scie/8740625/","projectTitle":"My Students are Dreamers and Future Scientists","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bender","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9647223_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723391071200","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9647223"},{"teacherId":9647223,"projectId":8797172,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous gift! Students were thrilled more at the plastic cups because some can't afford water bottles so to have a \"water cup\" was the best part of the gift especially because most of the hygiene products were for my female students. It's a relief when girls can go to the bathroom and find what they need for when it's that time of the month especially so they're not embarrassed to ask to go see the nurse because it's right there in the bathroom. I also have some for next year so I can't wait to see their reaction as well! \r\n\r\nWe did use the cups for a classroom party when someone brought soda so it saved some money for parents especially because this is a school with families who have low income or are below the federal poverty level that cannot afford to bring supplies for a classroom party. A party to celebrate statewide testing and testing scores and behavior. Also the bins I was able to buy helped with organization around the classroom. Keeping things organized for ESE students is major for their success in the classroom so the impact is a great deal of gratitude for helping with an organized classroom environment.\r\n\r\nLastly the smells from the air freshener plug ins has helped. Most times kids come back from PE sweating or just the classroom smells in general cannot be good sometimes so the kids were so happy to walk in the classroom and smell lavender & vanilla because again it helped create a calm environment that made them want to continue to do their work even if there was a smell they did not like. I even had other kids wanting to come into my room because it always smelled so good that they could smell it from the hallway. I never realized how important classroom smells are but let me tell you it makes a difference to their motivation in wanting to learn. Thank you and I'm beyond thankful and so are my students as well. God Bless You and thank you so much! The snacks are used for snack time, after a particularly long learning session, giving everyone a moment to recharge. The variety of snacks—Oreo cookies, gummies, animal crackers, and Chips Ahoy—gives every student something to look forward to!\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the snacks, their reactions were priceless! There were smiles all around, and a few \"Wow, we get these today?\" moments. The excitement was contagious, and it really energized the class. Especially since the new Dog Man movie came out recently then to have the experience to read the book before they saw the movie built on their excitement to want to pick up a book and read! Literacy is so important with 5th graders because there are a lot of children who should be reading big chapter books but are below reading level. The great part about Dog Man is that it's comics and it's easier for them to read and then they love to also draw the characters as well. \r\n\r\nMostly the kids would read after testing. Since the computer would die after doing statewide testing then they would pick up a book and read Dog Man or Goosebumps and other books that I bought with your generous gift. I hope the thank you cards really express my gratitude as well as my students because they were so excited when the books first arrived when they were in boxes and then I put them on the shelves. \r\n\r\nI am so blessed to have generous donors donate to my students and to my classroom. The books with animals were also helpful when teaching science and talking about adaptations because then students had to create their own project and those books were a helpful resource for them to have especially those students who don't have a computer or phone at home. Some kids eat at Sonic and they said thank you! Also some kids know that Andy is also very generous and they said thank you as well! Please know the impact is beyond what words can express because nothing beats seeing the smile from kids who don't live near a library want to pick up a book and be excited to read! That pure and innocent joy for literacy is something that I am very thankful for so thank you again for blessing me, my students and my classroom because of your tremendous gift!","fullyFundedDate":1727976059149,"projectUrl":"project/exciting-reading-adventures-for-5th-grad/8828868/","projectTitle":"Exciting Reading Adventures For 5th-Grade Allstars!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bender","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9647223_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723391071200","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9647223"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_45813","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":842,"numTeachers":85,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":96,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.3,"schoolId":45813,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Riverside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Riverside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/miami-dade-county-public-schools/riverside-elementary-school/45813"}
