My students use these resources during independent work, small-group activities, reading, centers, and other learning opportunities throughout the day. Instead of every student being expected to learn in the same type of seat, they are able to choose a workspace that helps them feel comfortable, focused, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new seating options, they were immediately excited and eager to try them! One of my favorite moments was watching them explore the different choices and begin figuring out which seating option worked best for them. What initially felt like something new and exciting quickly became a meaningful classroom tool. Students are learning that flexible seating is not simply about choosing the \"fun\" seat—it is about making a responsible choice that helps them do their best learning.\r\n\r\nI have especially enjoyed seeing students become more independent in recognizing what they need to be successful. During independent and small-group activities, students can select a seating option, gather their materials, and settle into a space that works for them. The additional movement and flexibility have been especially helpful for students who have difficulty remaining focused in a traditional chair for extended periods.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building students' independence and responsibility with these resources. As we work through upcoming literacy and math lessons, students will continue practicing how to select an appropriate workspace, use the seating safely, complete their work, and determine whether their choice helped them stay focused. One of my favorite moments was watching students choose their books, settle into the bean bag chairs, and become completely engaged in their reading. The chairs have helped make reading feel more enjoyable and have encouraged students to spend more time reading independently.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building strong reading habits while working on comprehension, making inferences, and using text evidence to explain our thinking. Students will use the Reading Corner to read a variety of texts and then share what they learned with classmates. We will continue practicing how to support our ideas with evidence from the text and develop a deeper understanding of what we read.
