With our limited budget, we are very grateful when we receive donations of books for our library. We do our best to take care of our books so that we may enjoy them for many years to come. One of the ways we care for our books is by covering them with library-grade contact paper. By covering the books in this way, the books are protected from stains and spills. The books are also much more durable to being handled by the many students who enjoy them.","fullyFundedDate":1745027176986,"projectUrl":"project/please-help-us-protect-our-new-books/9177184/","projectTitle":"Please Help Us Protect Our New Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Diezel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9809038_orig.jpg?crop=1383,1383,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741451974524","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9809038"},{"teacherId":9809038,"projectId":9149359,"letterContent":"Your donation of the I Survived graphic novels has had a tremendous impact on our Andrews Elementary readers. They were so thrilled to see the new books on the shelves! Students were bargaining with each other, saying, \"Let's read these two by the end of the week, then we'll come back to the library together and check them in, trade books, and then check out each other's.\" This is not something I have seen very often!\r\n\r\nMost excitingly, reading the graphic novels has led many of the students to be curious about History, and to be interested in reading chapter books and non-fiction books. With their new knowlege of using the digital card catalog, they are searching the historical event that the I Survived graphic novel they enjoyed was about, and finding other books to deepen their knowlege. This behavior is a librarian's dream come true! Thank you so much for your generousity in making this happen.","fullyFundedDate":1741971609174,"projectUrl":"project/the-graphic-novels-students-crave-the/9149359/","projectTitle":"The Graphic Novels Students Crave, The History They Need","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Diezel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9809038_orig.jpg?crop=1383,1383,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741451974524","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9809038"},{"teacherId":9809038,"projectId":9149893,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing our elementary school library with the 12 North Carolina Children's Book Award nominee titles! We used a March Madness format to choose our school-wide winner as we read each title together, then students voted on the North Carolina Children's Book Award website to help select the state-wide winner. It was a very engaging project!\r\n\r\nI built a book bracket on one of our bulletin boards. As we read each book, students voted in an online Google form poll to select between the book we had just read or the previous week's book. Students were very excited each week to share their thoughts about why they were voting for a particular book. This led to much discussion about the author's intention, writing style, and the mood of the book, as well as the illustrator's use of pictures to convey the story. During this introductory period, the books were only available for students to view in the library, not to check out.\r\n\r\nAfter we had read all 12 books and voted on our school-wide winner, \"Yoshi: Sea Turtle Genius,\" I catalogued and processed all of the books. I covered them in protective film and placed them into circulation. The students took extra care with these books as they were much coveted for checkout! The books remained very popular and circulated steadily for the remainder of the school year.\r\n\r\nOnce voting was open in April, students went to the NC Children's Book Award website and voted for their personal favorite book. Interestingly, the NC winner was also \"Yoshi!\" Our students felt connceted to students in the rest of the state through voting, and treasured having their voices heard. Thank you for this tremendous learning opportunity, and for helping our students engage with reading.","fullyFundedDate":1741555935784,"projectUrl":"project/students-vote-for-the-2025-north-carolin/9149893/","projectTitle":"Students Vote for the 2025 North Carolina Children's Book Awards","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Diezel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9809038_orig.jpg?crop=1383,1383,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741451974524","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9809038"},{"teacherId":9913010,"projectId":9090320,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you all enough for your generous donation towards the purchase of an ice machine for the nurses office.\r\n\r\nHaving an ice machine in the nurses office has significantly reduced the amount of time that students are out of the classroom and missing instruction time due to the nurse having to get ice from the cafeteria.\r\n\r\nAs the school nurse, this has increased my availability to care for more students with illnesses or injuries as I am more present when students come into the nurses office.
