I hear things like, \"poetry is hard\" and \"I don't know what it means.\" But, once students start to engage in the work of CLOSE reading, interpreting, and analyzing, it becomes one of their favorite parts of the class. Oftentimes, students who were most resistant write some original compositions of their own and submit them to our school literary journal. Therefore, having poetry collections to teach is critical to the high school English classroom. \r\n\r\nI am of the opinions that books open doors, literal doors and metaphorical doors. Your donation has opened a multitude of doors for many students. Your generosity has opened a mind, changed a perspective, created empathy, and engaged students with one another. Your donation is vast and profound and impacts students far beyond their high school learning.\r\n\r\nThank you for your desire to assist with making sure that we have students who are not just critical thinkers but are also good humans.","fullyFundedDate":1770996189566,"projectUrl":"project/for-the-love-of-the-poem/10056279/","projectTitle":"For the Love of the Poem","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vertovec","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1723774_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770813087077","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/vertovec"},{"teacherId":9241261,"projectId":9567061,"letterContent":"I deeply appreciate the gift of books and bookmarks your donation provided for my students. By providing high interest low lexile reading books students were able to pair off and read to each other.
