We use the fidget tools, textured items, and calming sensory bins to help students self-regulate so they can stay focused and ready to learn. For example, before literacy or math time, students choose a sensory tool that helps their bodies feel \"ready\" — some squeeze a stress ball, others explore a textured toy or watch a glitter wand settle. This simple routine has made a big difference in helping my students manage big feelings and remain engaged in classroom activities.\r\n\r\nWhen the sensory materials first arrived, my students were immediately drawn to them. Their faces lit up with curiosity and excitement as they explored the different textures, sounds, and movements. Some students who are usually hesitant to try new things reached out on their own to touch the squishy or bumpy items, while others calmly sat and focused on a single toy for several minutes—something that is often very challenging for them. It was a powerful moment to see students who typically struggle with regulation find comfort and calm in tools made just for their needs.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue teaching students how to use these sensory tools independently as part of their self-regulation strategies. We are building visual choice boards so students can select the sensory supports that work best for them, and we'll be tracking how these tools help them participate more successfully in learning tasks. We'll also incorporate the sensory toys into social-emotional lessons, helping students learn the language of feelings (\"I feel frustrated,\" \"I need a break\") and appropriate ways to cope. Your generosity is not only helping my students feel calmer and safer at school—it is giving them lifelong tools to support their emotional well-being. With everything in order and easy to find, transitions between activities have become smoother and more predictable. This has been especially helpful for students who feel anxious with sudden changes. The organized setup allows them to focus on learning without feeling overwhelmed by clutter. They were eager to explore the new rewards and couldn't wait to start earning their incentives. In our classroom, students work hard to earn a minimum of five checks per day, which allows them to receive one car each day. Watching them take ownership of their choices and strive toward their goals has been incredible. One of my favorite moments was seeing a student who typically struggles with motivation work extra hard to follow classroom expectations—just so he could save up for a special reward. The positive reinforcement has already made a noticeable difference in our classroom environment.\r\n\r\nWith these new resources, we've been able to celebrate students' efforts and encourage positive social interactions. By combining these materials with sensory play, students gained a tangible understanding of how snowflakes form and fall. They loved being able to \"touch\" the snow and see it take shape, which made the lesson come alive in a way that books or videos simply couldn't.\r\n\r\nIn addition, we've been using misting fans to explore how freezing rain and sleet form, and students have been fascinated by how the mist behaves when it interacts with different temperatures. The non-toxic craft paints and Play-Doh have helped them craft winter scenes, while the Weather - Touch and Feel Board Book has provided additional context through a hands-on, sensory experience. These activities have allowed my students to engage with winter weather on a deeper level, using creativity and exploration to solidify their understanding of the science behind the season.
