I am a Teacher in Specialized school in NYC. My students are 11 to 13 years old with a range of Special needs from Autism, Intellectual Disabilities and Emotional Disabilities. My students are hardworking and eager to learn and love showing off their knowledge! Our staff at the school are very emotionally supportive of our students and all the progress they make each year, but because we are a Title 1 school, we often lack the funds to purchase the necessary materials to facilitate student learning. Our learners require many modifications, adaptation and materials for day to day academic and functional skills. Without these materials our students aren't reaching their highest potential.
